After I got over the big heavy bergan phase the first pack I tried was the Airjet 45L, I really liked it. I thought it was fairly well made with good thick fabric, decent padding and reinforcements where it was needed. I don't remember having any problems with the zips or buckles but I might have just been lucky.

I have two AirJets - the 45 for Summer and the 55 for Winter. I've had them about 3 years, and I've always found them great - really robust and not too heavy. Never had any problems with the zips.

I used a big Airjet for expeditions a couple of times - good, tough, reliable but not the most comfortable compared to top of the range stuff...I liked it well enough! and it did some hard miles :)

Had three airjets now, one for me and one each for the two boys, zips and buckles have failed on three of them and even with the small 25ltr ones we used as day packs i found them to be incredibly uncomfortable, i now use a Forses 25 as a day pack and have no complaints, eldest has my my "urban" Karrimor and youngest still uses his Forces, but not for long.

Funny - lots of different experiences, more positive than negative. My buckles snapped and the zips jammed or burst. Never happened to me on other rucksacks I have used. It was on the small size - 25L or so. Maybe the bigger ones are better made?

oh yeah on youngest one the seams have split as well and no, it's never been over packed as it's for day trips only

I was surprised by the negatives here. Mine have been in hard use for 3 years as I stated above.

The zips: I really stuff the top pocket - that's where I keep waterproofs - jacket, trousers and gaiters. Also my mini towel if that's too wet to go inside. Also a trowel. It's often a struggle to close the zip, but I've never had a problem, and never felt it was in danger of going.

The buckles - again, never had a problem. There's that little clip thing that stops the free end of the strap from dangling, and a few times that has gotten dragged into the buckle and jammed. It comes out with a bit of jimmying, but my impression was that the plastic in both the buckle and clip is really good. I've never had a buckle snap, or even felt that they were in danger of it.

Like I say, these see some hard use. They've been through mud and rain, they've carried big loads for long distances. And I've used both of them to ferry groceries, and loaded them so heavy I could barely stand. Well, I exaggerate slightly, but you get the idea.

Not only have they come up smiling after all that, they don't even look worn. No stitching coming apart, nothing breaking or wearing unduly.

Strange that experiences can be so different. Maybe quality is variable, and I've been lucky?

I think i bought it off you? Stil going strong and holding up well to quite a few trips.
