You can't go wrong with the Snugpak/DD underquilt. If you don't mind a bit of weight and bulk then it'll see you right through a British winter without any bother. If you want something lighter and much less bulky then you need to look at down versions.

You can always buy a cheap sleeping bag and modify it to use as an u/q.

E.g. slip a silver thermo blanket that are cheap as chips below your sleep bag or in that space DDs' give you,then a lightweight bag as said u/q.

Bit cheaper than those sold as a dedicated u/q.

I made one from a Go Outdoors £5 sleeping bag.

I'm finding it a bit hit and miss. A few weeks ago I slept in the garden with that, a foil backed picnic blanket in the slot of my DD campning hammock and a army summer sleeping bag; was loverly and warm. I was in the woods on Saturday with same set up but except a diy foam mat instead of the picnic blanket and was cold.

I just haven't sussed it yet.
