Advice needed - dog-sledding trips

My Dad's health isn't what it once was, and we were discussing his ambitions for things he wants to do whilst he still can. He completely surprised me by topping his list with 'dog sledding' - something I never thought he'd be interested in (think mild-mannered engineer meets Arctic Circle - bizarre!).

Anyway, can anyone recommend an operator in Scandinavia who can offer this? Most of the companies I've found specialise in 4-day+ expeditions moving from cabin to cabin, and I don't think that's what we're after - rather, a few days based from a single site, going out on trips where we can turn round and come home once my Dad's getting tired.

Any thoughts/tips/recommendations hugely welcomed!

Cheers

It does look fab, I think my Dad's after the full Arctic experience, so I need to keep digging. Just spoke with Transun but didn't get a sense of confidence that they know what they're up to, so going to keep digging...

We went with them to Sweden for a 5 day Arctic adventure that included dog-sledding ( with an experienced musher, we sat in the back all snug :)), reindeer racing, skidoos, ice- fishing etc. We were based in a small Hotel in Kiruna, about 10 people in the group and finished off with a night in the Ice Hotel. It was the best holiday we have ever been on.
I think they now do a 5 day dog-sledding holiday too. Were you're dad would get taught how to mush with his own team of dogs. He would be responsible for the wellfare of the dogs during that time, so dont know if his health would stand up to that.
Have to say too, that when we went in March a few years ago although it got to -40 over night and hovered about -10 during the day the cold was very dry, so it didnt feel so bad as -10 C feels up here in Scotland where its a lot wetter.

Hi there, actually just looking at this myself. I have a brochure from KE Adventure which they sent through the post but originally found them on line at www.keadventure.com.
Let me no what you think, the trouble i'm having is picking which adventure! :)

Wow. Spectacular wow. As you say, not cheap - £2k a head by the time you've got there, so unlikely to happen, but let's see.

At the end of this, regardless of which I choose, I'll post up a summary of the research.

Had a long chat with the old man today and at the moment the KE Adventure trip is the winner:
- Hotel accommodation each night (bear in mind he's not young)
- Price is good (still very expensive but better than we anticipated)
- Two people per sled (so I can help him if he tires)
- Day's snowmobiling too (which he wants to try).

Fingers crossed we'll have a booking sorted soon.

Thanks for your help,

Tobes
