Brother In The Land (Puffin Teenage Fiction) by Robert Swindells. Post apocolyptic.
The Dead Of Night (Laurel Leaf Books) by John Marsden, first of a great series. Australia is invaded, teenagers act as resistance.
The Kin: Suth's Story Bk.1 by Peter Dickinson. 4 books in series. Stone age, lots of primative skills.
Chronicles of Ancient Darkness, mentioned before.

Thanks all - theres a good load there I ahven't heard of. I'll do the "read and pass on" on some of them. Mainly because:

1) I still enjoy stories for all ages and rip through a fair number of books a month

2) I like to be sure I'm suggesting something good.

Any really great ones I'll keep and pass on the name :D

My lad (same age) seems to be into A. McNab's childrens stuff at the minuite.
He also enjoyed Touching the void, by Joe simpson
Charlie Higson's young james bond series seems to be popular at the mo...though my lad weren't all that impressed.
