It’s not just honey , if you Google ‘sugar and Vaseline wound care in Africa ‘ there are some interesting articles .
I recall seeing this in a Tv program where this mix was and has been used for years when modern medicine was not easily available .

I should point out I was the trained first aid guy for a volunteer group.

One of the incidents almost 30 years ago is when a teen swung a billhook into the forearm of his mate that was behind him. Fortunately missed any nerves and ligaments.

Other incidents have people using a sledgehammer on another metal crowbar, the crowbar shattered sending a shard into the chest of a person wielding the hammer.

And this manuka honey dressings are self aid, and not first aid. No one in the UK should using honey on another person unless perhaps they are a relative.

Chito dressings are used by the NHS, military, police and rescue services in the UK.

They are for catastrophic bleeds that cannot be controlled by other means (direct pressure/Torniquet)

These bleeds are a life and death emergency, living survivors of these injuries will need to see a surgeon quick time.

I’d strongly advise anyone wishing to carry these to get on an appropriate first aid course.

All the people whose wounds I have dressed with manuka dressing have had these treatments approved by drs/ tissue viability nurse practitioners in hospitals. The entire dressing process is complex this ensures non adhesion so changing dressings pain is reduced.
