Aberlady bay is a great place, me and three mates camped overnight there a few years ago(well dug scrapes in the sand dunes and put or doss bags in them) you can still sea the old WW2 coastal defences in places, did you see the two X craft at the low tide mark?

they were anchored up after the war and used as ariel target practice

There's a lot of coast line to explore there. Most people gravitate to Aberlady sands, but the best area around there is Tyninghame woods. There are about six iron age forts in and around this area too.
