Thermoelectric generator, that is cool. Clothing someday?

I always wanted to try one of those Sierra Zip Stoves which seems to get mixed reviews. Has anyone here ever made something similar? Little electric fans are basically free.

Yep http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17516

I've recently been thinking of a mark 3 version.
Probably because I've got a nice flat sideblowing 5V laptop fan ( free from a broken laptop) a Peltier unit from a broken minifridge [ free TEG ;)]and a CPU heatsink all lying round doing nothing.
I fancy trying to make it clip onto the side of a Honeystove ( nice flat sides for heat tranfer and very usable as is ) and using thin foil as an outside.

The thing that puts me off the Biolite stove is that awful whining of the fan, something i feel they need to address if they want sell to people who enjoy the peace of the outdoors.

The new one they're working on looks interesting http://www.biolitestove.com/NextGen_Cook_Stove.html

The stove does look cool and the technology is interesting but I think we have to look at some background info before we can actually judge the stove. This is a very early development of this type of stove

A thermo-electric fan is cool and I think that there are a few stove designers playing around with this idea but I think this is the first commercial model.

For the size of the stove the boil times seem nothing special for a wood gas stove with a fan. Some natural draught stoves of around that size can boil a 4 liters of water in around 12 minutes in the demonstration video the guy said that you can boil half a liter in around 3-4 minutes

The stove design itself seems not to be very efficient, The gas-O2 ratio is wrong which can be seen from the orange flame and the sooted pot and the gas production rate needs to be controlled, the flame cap is quite violent and the stove is producing more gas than it can burn cleanly.

The stove is cool but needs to be developed upon. I can't wait to see what stoves using thermo-electric fans will be produced in the future!

Aaargh I wanted that fan but then I saw the price of it :lmao: :soapbox:
A Thermo-electric fan on a small woodburing stove sounds a bit too space age for my liking..I see fancy gizmo's fall flat almost daily....we have to remember that a properly designed stove will use natural convection to create a draught airflow (hot air rises fast & sucks in fresh air to replace it)....allright may not kindle & boil in two minutes but what's the hurry - we leave the rat race at home....
Still - I am a sucker for technology though don't want to appear to rubbish what looks like a nifty bit of kit & i'd love to take one of these apart & suss it out..I agree it does look very interesting.
I'm working on a wee home made foldable pot bellied stove just now which I hope I can use inside my tent porch - burning driftwood - I'll post a few pics & more info after I test it.

yeh fair enough..self designed & homemade thermo electric stoves I can dig..if just for the fun of designing & making it.....in practice who knows.....but you'd get some serious flak if you brought it out with your mates & it fell flat on it's a***
