Evening all,

I was sorting through my scraps pile yesterday and came across a half billet of lovely applewood that I had completely forgotten about.

It was well seasoned so a bit of a beast to carve but produced a lovely little eating spoon, I'm not one for ornamentation so went with a simple design which at least to me complements the wood.

Hope you like it.

Elegant design, stunning wood - that just oozes class!

I've never had the opportunity to work with apple wood, but I'll definitely be on the lookout for some.

Great! You certainly know how to show off the glory of apple wood grain. What's the finish?
And all the scrap and shavings can go into the next load in the smoker BBQ with some porky thing.

The scraps are sitting in my tinder pouch along with all my birch bark but if I had a smoker that's probably where they would have gone.

The finish is almond oil followed by a coat of natural beeswax.
I have been favouring oil baths recently and this one one soaking for about 18 hours then rested for another 5 or so before the beeswax.

I can highly recommend it, my usual staple wood is birch as it grows in abundance near me and for carving the two are quite similar.

I was lucky enough to get a small haul from a friend whose wife decided she wanted an open garden so the tree had to go!
