I’ve definitely noticed it’s getting much harder to tell when something is real or AI created, especially on social media. Just a few weeks ago, I saw a wildlife video that felt just a bit “off” and I spent a good five minutes trying to figure out if it was genuine or not. Sometimes I feel hyper-skeptical and awkwardly question real photos too, which can be a bit embarrassing. When editing my own video clips, I try to keep things transparent by recording my screen and adding my own commentary so people know it's authentic. Tools that let you capture your own screen with things like webcam overlays and voice recording really help with this, and I found https://www.movavi.com/screen-recorder/ or naked link or brand pretty handy for exactly that.

Having seen some rather interesting and some downright disturbing videos produced by AI on SM , I'm actually thinking there maybe a significant problem on the horizon in terms of distinguishing created content from reality.
In terms of how realistic it looks you are talking about the 'uncanny valley' effect of AI videos. I think I can still always spot them although it is often getting extremely difficult now. Probably within about another year it will be totally impossible to tell the difference for many things.

However, (there's always a 'however') there are some people whom I have been watching on Youtube for several years. I know them now. I know their personalities, I understand on a instinctual human level how they think and what they are like as people. Soon AI will be able to recreate videos which look and sound exactly the same as these people in every visual and audible way. However no matter how good it gets and how real it looks I doubt AI will ever be able to recreate (for want of a better word) the 'soul' of these people. I still think that because I have already got to know these Youtube presenters personalities so well over a period of several years, I will always be able to spot if future videos of them are real or AI created based on what they say and how they say it. If you already know a person well enough there will be a gut feeling there which will give an AI imposter away. Maybe not straight away but probably quite quickly.

The way people seem to be embracing AI and assistive technology it's like no-one ever watched Terminator or 2001: A Space Odyssey!
This week I heard in the news that the US military have effectively handed command of the US nuclear submarines over to Palantir Technologies AI systems! Not only that but to ensure the servers could survive a full-on nuclear exchange they are putting them in underground bunkers complete with their own built-in nuclear power stations that totally separate from the rest of America's power grid.

I mean come on, really? They should just rename Palantir to Skynet and have done with it. :(

Here we go again.

Here's a thought. In theory someone could use AI to make a perfect mirror image of this website and display it on your computer to view. It could then populate the website with chat bots which would be able to do a pretty good job of mimicking all of the people on here by copying certain traits of our personalities and way of typing. It could even create fake photos of our equipment and adventures and things like that. It could then gradually over time use those chat bots to subtly steer conversations in certain direction to manipulate the victim while they were totally unaware that they were the only real human on the forum.

OR

It’s already been done and the whole world/universe is AI.

I dont think anything could replace me.

We are in talks with a Uni over having a robot at work...it would have to be pretty sophisticated to fit in and...

...imagine the bad reviews! Its bad enough people complaining that our multicultural events are not Scottish...

Problem is with the development of A.I. is that the coders aren't in a postion to dictate ethical policy/use and the owners/shareholders are way too rich/greedy/removed to care.

OT - following some advice from somewhere, I just set my phone and laptop to a b/w screen. Maybe I'll be weaned off before the real crap hits the fan ... not that that will do much to attenuate the more general social effects of unreined disinformation.

On the other hand, we do now have the Babelfish

AI. Real fish too slippery.

Anyhow, on another level.

The jobcentre are running courses on AI and jobseeking, I am suspiciously curious

Should I bother attending?

Is using A.I to solve a problem or question an act of Intelligence?

< Before any smart -bottom does it - I don't want to see that being typed into Chat whatcha face )
