Great read and excellent pics, i have one problem!! You make it sound too easy and that's from someone who can't even walk properly without swearing and breaking a sweat, thanks for sharing i am sure you know i am joking about the problem

I enjoyed reading the trip report on your blog. At one point in my life I did "Ruck Runs" in my free time outings. It was a good way to combine my love of nature and backpacking with an element of training in being a light infantry soldier. Nice job with your blog!

Thanks :) I'd have liked to carry on and do the full day on sunday, but I was worried about worsening sunburn and stomach cramps. I put in a good day on saturday though.

for comparison - here's a man who makes me look like a one legged octogenarian :)

For what it's worth, 8 years ago in my mid thirties I smoked 40 a day and drank 100 to 150 units a week. I know there's a few folk on here who are trying to get fitter, lose some weight, quit smoking etc.The effort is really worth it, and one day you find you've got more to lose by going back than keeping on going.

Good report :thankyou: goodjob

"the heat was starting to tell a bit. I was still maintaining the glycogen saving climb speed"

 Your energy saving, up hill, speed is quicker than my flats!

It's good to have someone (or something) to chase though ...

For what it's worth, ...

I'm at the start of the course, it's worth more than you probably realise

Thanks for that Decorum, it's nice to know :) I always try and let people know that I'm not some kind of uber athlete, I started out as a reformed smoker and boozer, so there's nothing I've done that others can't if they want to. I learned from another reformed smoker and boozer who was two or three years further down the road than me. It's not for everyone, but if you take to it, running the hills is an amazing feeling.

These will show you the route I followed, pace over the course of the day etc.
