Hi all, i am taking my nephew out for the first time in a couple of weeks and he has never been camping before. He's enthusiastic about it but i want to see how he handles it before i take him out wild camping anywhere. So am looking for a decent campsite near Yorkshire although I don't mind driving a couple of hours. Have been looking at a few in Cumbria and have seen this one Lanefoot Farm which sounds pretty good but I know from the past camping in the Lakes that the best sites aren't found online they are ones you hear about through word of mouth while you are up there. Since my only trip up there recently was my trip to Mosedale Cottage bothy last year I am a bit out of the loop. I used to know a good one near Ambleside but my friend says it has been turned into a Glamping place. I'm looking for somewhere that isn't too busy or doesn't have many pitches. I want to try and make it as authentic an experience as possible for him which I know is hard to do staying on actual campsites so was hoping to tap into the wealth of experience on here to see if anybody can help us out with a recommendation. I would ideally like to have a fire while there and i know a lot of places offer to rent you fire pits nowadays. I want to take hime on a good few walks and try and get him to learn to identify a few trees and birds. Thanks in advance for any help with this i really appreciate it. Like i say i'm not set on the Lakes or Yorkshire I don't mind driving a bit if it's a nice place.

There's the national parks/trust one at the entrance to gordale scar. That's basic and has amazing views and location.
Thanks for the reply. Like the area I haven't been there, not too far either. (I live in Leeds, should have mentioned that) I can't find the one you mean on The National Trust website I found This One round there which doesn't look too bad, no fires but i'm guessing National Trust sites don't allow them either.
Haggsbank http://haggsbank.com/campsite/ near Alston in Cumbria. Run by Danny and Cathy. You can tent it or hammock in the woods. Just run a bike rally there last month and we had a fabulous time and our hosts were very helpful

You could try Rough Hey Wood at Triangle, near Sowerby Bridge. Tents only, lets you have fires in washer drums and big wood with small river right next door.
that's the one, not far from leeds neither, also if you've not been to malham cove and the limestone pavement landscape get yourself up there, even if not for camping it's well worth it. The sowerby bridge camp is also good, plus it's near widdop and bride stones which are both stunning as well.
I've been to Rough Hey quite a few times. It can get busy on b/h weekends but is ok most of the time. Open year round, too.
If you don't get round to it before the end of next month, keep an eye out in the meetup's section for June's "Stead Hall" meet. Not "wild camping" per sé but it's a nice spot, cheap as chips, well looked after and there'll be others there to gain experience and knowledge from. The woods are large enough for you to have your own private time and be reasonably secluded if you wish but with the option of socialising if you feel the need. I've just done my first ever weekender (also first overnighter) with my 12yr old daughter and the others from this forum up at Stead Hall and I'm definitely looking forward to going back.
