With my baby girl being a few months old and sleeping through mosts nights now, I managed to slip away for a quick overnighter. That went so well that I was given another pass out by SWMBO and younger SWMBO.

The first night was my first upland winter wildcamp. Daniel and I know the area we chose well and walk in the evenings year round whatever the weather. Due to the snow we were prepared for a few scenarios from a pint of ale in a country pub to a night walk but hoped for a wildcamp.

After a walk in to the proposed camp spot we found a level area and began digging out the snow for the tent and building a wind break. It was windy and snowing but the work kept us warm.

The temperature was quite pleasant in the tent as we drank our rum and hot chocolate before bed. We were at around 450m with the temp probably hovering just below freezing outside the tent.

This was just before zipping up for the night:

The wind whipped against the tent until about 3.00am it stopped completely. From then until the morning grouse calls it was silent outside the tent.

There were hare and grouse tracks near where we camped:

Daniel and I all packed and ready to leave. The snow shovel on my back is the hardware store kind with the shaft cut down and served its purpose well:

We both left with big grins on our faces from a good night out.

I could tell the story about taking a ziplock bag of partially frozen tortilla wraps to the toilet instead of wet wipes. But I won't.

looks like a great night out. I'm in Cheshire too, were you out somewhere near Buxton or around that area ?

The second night out in December coincided with my birthday and was more of a bushy affair. I met up with Crowman, Fox and Fox's two nephews who had made a good job in setting up the camp. A lot of wood was taken in and also collected as the daytime highs were around -5.

It was a cold night, the weather station nearby recorded -13.6. I had the baffle of my sleeping bag pulled tight with my head blocking the hole to stop the icy draft. I wasn't uncomfortable just aware of the cold. I didnt mind as the the stars and planets were amazing.

Greated by a cold morning:

The whimsy of bushcraft. I had a rack of pans available but wanted my bacon cooked on a stick, so I did.

It was up in the Peak District not far from Kinder Downfall. The Peak District, especially the dark peak is only a short drive from where I live so It's really convenient for a post work walk and pint.

Was that recently? Loads of snow! It's all gone down south unfortunately. At least where I am. :-(
