The basic idea of his camp was to see if I could cut the amount of kit I take camping - I normally end up doing two trips in from the road ...despite keeping my tarps and hammock on site!
The limit set was 65L and not using anything left on site - but I cheated, using the tripod chair, bow saw and grill that live on site -- otherwise all the gear was in a DD bergan (55L) with a couple of extra pockets attached, plus a 5L-ish British army 1937 pattern haversack (original!). I also carried an extra tarp, ground mat and bivvi bag to try out different tarp and ground dwelling set-ups (I have not abandoned my hammocks in years!) to see what worked best. At the end of the month I will be doing the same but with different tarps and mats, ready for a true "65L Challenge" at a different site.
This trip mainly saw Stewart - who joined me - prepping firewood, whittling spatulas and making a stand for the site water roller as well as eating, drinking, dozing in the sun, putting the world to rights and all the usual stuff like that...
I hope the photos tell the story ...
First- the tarp set ups I tried - I used the small tarp (Snugpak item that fits in a pocket) the first night using the Finnish roll mat and an Aldi air bed, then swapped to the DD 4x4 adapted plough share steup with the Finnish rollmat and Ridgerest the second night - but as expected there was not enough padding for my bones so I swapped the airbed for the Ridgerest during the night!
