That's a marvelous job ! Beautiful piece of wood and cracking shape. Would love to get my hands on a Birch burl.
 
That is a thing of beauty mate. Have a birch burl in the backyard I have been meaning to work on for ages. How long did it take btw and did you use sandpaper at all?

I have a chainsaw disc and also cheat and use a 60 grit flap disc on the angle grinder. It cut the time down to about 10 hours.

Yes, a wee bit sandpapering was involved. I keep wanting a tooled finish but get to that stage and just go for smooth as I think it shows the wood off more.
