Western man has come to believe that he is special, endowed with a soul by his creator.

Most people think everything else is dead and has no soul, dirt, water, stone, animals, even people different than themselves.

On the other hand I subscribe to the belief that EVERYTHING is alive, dirt, water, stone, trees, animals, even the earth itself.

The spirits of these beings surround us and speak to us if we have ears to listen.

Listen............................!!

It it calls to me even now.

Me - I am just putting on my boots to get out there for a while, out there where the silence talks and the talk is silent.

Some good posts in this thread, i've been intrigued by the responces.

At the end of the day, woods have always been there as a provider, shelter and a place of protection for humans and wildlife for thousands of years. Such a shame that mankind has deemed it necessary to destroy them, and therefore destroying the spirit/aura/atmosphere of such places.

And yet we still feel safe in them.

I honestly don't think it's a new age/paganistic/religious feeling we all get when out in the wilds, it's alot deeper than that and harks back to ancient times before industry, concrete, cars etc.

Since joining this forum i've got out alot more and it's done me more good than any "specialist" i've seen.

So, thanks to all you for sharing and thanks for this forum being here.

And remember, there's things in them woods that are older and more wise than anything man could ever produce. Respect it - even shouting at the moon after too many special brews ;)

I believe in spirits of place sometimes I ask the spirits for protection and light a candle. I've seen things that would even scare Derek Acorah. And when I leave the woods I tap a tree and say thank you.

I know what you mean, I think. There have been times over the years when I have thought I have seen faces, quite humanoid, but not quite human, peeking, hiding.

One of the most startling was in the middle of the day when I went to view this woodland for sale a few weeks ago.

I was stood virtually in the same place as the photographer was when they took the shot of the gate. I turned 90 degrees to the left and there is a rise with a crop of tree's and just beneath the foliage I was sure I saw a head and torso naked but coloured in muted greens and browns just stood there checking us out. I blinked as I processed this thought and when I looked again there was just tree's and shrubs to be seen. I took a bit of a sharp breath as I wrestled with the though that I was pretty sure I had actually seen something physically stood there yet there was no way I could have - there was nothing bar tree's and shrubs there.

The human imagination is a fantastic thing and I can understand how the old idea of the ancient faeries came about.

I thanked the woods for safe passage that day though.

I have walked through some forest and found myself stunned at the beauty of it all. It some times looks like a picture waiting to be painted. The smell of pine or the sight of deer moving swiftly by. How can anyone not be spiritual stirred by such experiences ?
I was born and raised in the country (now 51) and would sooner die poor in the country than rich in a city.

I don’t mean talk to the trees but positive thoughts.

Why not talk to the trees? I do  .

But then I talk to lots of things. I think it's very important to show respect and gratitude to everything :240: . I don't necessarily believe that the things can here me but I can here me. Talking to things as people reminds me to treat them as people, or at least entities and not just objects.

Also thinking peaceful thoughts will make you look peaceful to the wildlife. Like on nature programs you see gazelles calmly wondering around lions because the lions are not in a hunting mood. The same thing happens with humans, if you think peaceful non-threatening thoughts the woods will notice.

Wow thats my dose of hippiness for the day :lmao:

Edit: Wow there are some truly inspiring posts on this thread, thank you copper_head for starting such a wonderful discussion.
