I wouldn't have tried it if Justin hadn't pushed me to!... Now he's got me challenging myself; just today I was out playing with a Green hazel drill and wet hearth board!

Yes you are!.. A byproduct of friction: HEAT! If you've got just one Limpet shell, a few fast turns and you'll find yourself with a limpet too hot to handle!.. Two Limpet shells resolves that issue

Cool! ... I've heard of limpet shells being used before, but usually embedded into a wooden block of some sort

I've tried them embedded into wood, personally I just prefer them on their own, I feel like I have more control the closer I am.

I've not given it an honest chance yet (embedded in wood), perhaps I'll have to have a play and carve one.

Actually.. I quite like the simplicity of your 2-shell method... saves the effort of carving the wooden block as well

Great work Ash (git ), I'll have to work hard now to beat that record lol.

I've used limpets in a wood block, but have just gone back to using simply limpets. Easy to carry, easy to hold, wood is completely unnecessary.
