Hello folks I am considering purchasing a larger knife and honestly I'm at a bit of a loss of what to purchase. One such knife that I have found to very appealing to me is the 3chiira the beast from Khukuri house. It appears to be completely genuine and a lot of reviews appear to be very positive. I am confused as to the purpose of the product. I'm worried it might be designed for a combat purposes not for survival.

Is there anything I need to know about this blade and Khukuris in general?
Thanks

Was it the first line stating that gave it away? ;)
Right :p It was mostly because the reviews of it had zombie killers and heavy metal music in the background. This is a much better one.

They are genuine Khukuri the company was started by a ex-Gurkha and as I understand it they are primarily used for weapons but seem to have a very good cut and they are beautiful tools.
Like I said I don't really know what I am looking for here but this item has a lot of positive reviews regarding it.
This is a different Khukuri but supposedly the one I am looking at is just as durable.

On another forum with a bit more traffic I got talking with a bunch of American fellas which advised me on other products they gave me reasons as to why my choices where bad.
My first one the 3 Chirra the beast is fantastic but the handle is very uncomfortable and is actually painful to use while cutting. My second one they dismissed as a silly designer blade. On that forum I narrowed it down to two blades:

The V series made by knivesmadebyhands.com in texas and Khukuri house. Lots of people swear by this make.

and the Pana

Both of these are no nonsense simple blades which are tried and tested on youtube with comfortable handles.
The Pana has a “Scandi Grind” which supposedly is a must have. But both of these have no fingerguard as I am brand new to using knives of this scale I think it would be wise to purchase one with a guard.
One such recommended item was a American Egale which is similar to my first post but it has a finger guard and a more comfortable handle (aparently)

Any more thoughts on these products?
Sorry if this seems like a awful lot of information but I'm trying to learn about something I previously had no knowledge on and rather than keep it to myself I try and share it for other users who might stumble on the thread.

It's late so I'll be brief, (or is it early?) I like the Pana, Shape - look at the slinky cutting curve, the rustic finish, the simple comfy handle, plain sheath. What's not to like, looks like it would be easy to care for, a pleasure and easy to use (and you do have to learn to use a knife with the weight and balance this does). It would be my choice of what you've shown. Will try to dig out or take a new pic of my kukri. It's not a looker and it needs a new sheath (When I've got cash I'm going to see if Dreadhead will do one as the one for his is stunning.)

I think i'll look at purchasing a pana. Still concerned about the lack of finger-guard but I suppose I'll just have to man up.

Hey bumping this thread rather than starting a new one.
I've just got my Kukri and I love it but this is my first time sharpening such a large knife. I'm likely to follow the instructions in this video >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vplOsEUgwIg
which requires purchasing sandpaper of different grits 800, 1000 and 1200 would this sand paper be appropriate?

Also I am confused as to why I can't put a edge on my blade while using the Lanksy puck or a Diamond sharpening file I own.
I can't seem to make it sharp in the slightest any advice?
