Good evening gentlemen.

MadMax and I would like to extend our gratitude for a spiffing weekend, good to meet you all and share a bottle or two. Just thinking about my bow and drill set and doing the jig of fire after successfully using it is reminding me of the weekend (in a good way). Just looking at the jar of crunchy peanut butter in the cupboard is also reminding me of the weekend (in a bad way).

Some piccies that might be of interest....

Happiness is...a bacon sarnie and a hammock to rest one's weary head.
Stuart's awesome shelter, commandeered as Maxi's Crib.
Bacon is good for me!
Tim's excellent knife skills demonstration followed by an equally excellent First Aid presentation with practical cross curricular demonstrations!

Many thanks to Tim for stepping up and presenting, many thanks to Stuart for hammock tips, knot tips, bow and drill tips.

Many thanks to Chsieller for his many and varied animal impressions, ranging from sabre tooth tigers to bears to squirrels, it's like they were there in the wood.

Cheers fellas,

JohnnyB

I am very happy that you all enjoyed the weekend. This was mainly down to Adam. I didn't play to much of a part in it.
If anyone has any complaints, PM me and we will try to sort any problems out. I feel we have a damn good solid core of crafters.

Can't think why there'd be any complaints, it's a great spot and a good crowd. Just a thought - if this is going to be a more regular thing we may need to sort out some sort of semi permanent latrines? It's a fairly small wood and the more we use it the more danger there is of finding "hidden treasures"! :p

Had another excellent weekend meeting up with the regulars and all the new faces. The new communal fire was brilliant as well. @adz great job on organising the meet and can do a meet in Dec just stick a new post up and will add my name.

No I am not expecting any problems. As for the toilet situation we are going to put a composting toilet in as soon as we get a small shed or ideally a portaloo shell. We don.t need the internal Tank. and if it is a bit damaged we can repair it. Now that we have the chute the composting toilet is the next thing on the agenda. That is why we have the raffle:eek: and put an extra pound on the admission fee, to pay for extra equipment.

Go into a store and ask about their waste donation scheme, there is a form to fill out if I remember rightly. However there will probably be a queue of others wanting the same. I applied 9 months ago for our Scout Group and I'm still waiting!! You need to be specific about what you want though, they won't give you stuff if you just say anything you've got lying around!

What about some pallets for starters? Could you not make the basic shape from them? There are a few places around Otley /Ilkley that have spare pallets - i can ask if you like Ian. I'm hoping to come along to a meet soon, the dates have clashed with other things ...

How do you get wood from B&Q?. Surely you don't just go up and ask for wood.

I went into our local store, explained about my group, projects etc, filled in the form, and within the week invited into the warehouse to choose what I wanted. The choice was off cuts of treated timber, some full lengths. I was given full access to a skip full of pallets, and other thick lengths.
Our local store were only too happy to help.

Pallets could be the way to go. But they are very heavy. 4 internal doors may work. Anyone got any old doors?? Corrugated iron from an old garage. Somebody must have some suitable materials.
