Hey Guest, Early bird pricing on the Summer Moot (29th July - 10th August) available until April 6th, we'd love you to come. PLEASE CLICK HERE to early bird price and get more information.
@santaman I'm not really sure what you are getting at. We are not talking about prisons or GIs working in hot climates (where calorie requirements for keeping warm are vastly reduced) on sustained diets of MREs. It seems like you have just decided to argue with me for the sake of it because you...
Hi Tiley, yes you are absolutely correct. I had in the back of my mind the rough cost of main meal plus custard dessert (actually £13), which is a combo we use as a backstop quick meal while on snowshoeing trips: 1,300+ calories in 250g of food and all you need is hot water. The Turmat packs...
@santaman Granted there always have to be considerations for those with special dietary requirements.
As for question over the long term effect if you used this diet frequently, I would argue that if most people reading this thread were hiking hard for a week out of every month, they'd be a...
@imagedude - a large proportion of the carbohydrate calories are actually complex carbs (pasta, cous cous, smash, oatcakes and the oats in the granola). The white pasta that I had in the bag in the video is 69.6% starch and only 3.5% simple sugars. If there is not enough roughage, just replace...
Martin, I've replied to your email. The system generated log-in emails are just not getting to you for some reason - most likely the firewall. I don't come on here very often so please reply to my email with support issues.
Thanks,
Paul
Hi Steve, thanks for pointing me in the direction of your trip report - a very enjoyable read. It's great to see people taking their skills further afield, pushing their boundaries and not worrying too much about their comfort zone. The result - as demonstrated by your trip is increased...
Sandbender, I also use a Crux AK57 as well as a Berghaus Vulcan, depending on what I'm doing, where I'm going and time of year (e.g. Vulcan, sans side pockets tends to be my ski-touring pack).
Cheers,
Paul
Hi Pete,
Enjoyable - and extensive - trip write up. Great effort and thanks for sharing.
And just to chip in on the temperature debate - we were up north of Gallivare that same week and the days you had the cold temps in Jokkmokk the temperature where we were was minus 20 to 25 during the day...
Hi everyone,
Interesting thread and thanks for the mention in your clearly communicated post :)
To reply to Tiley and the thread in general...
I completely concur with what Tiley is saying here but to add my t'penneth: Yes, it's a long and winding road (particularly at the moment). Success...
Hi Niels, that's certainly all true but if you really want to do it, you'll make it work for you. It wasn't meant to be a negative message, only a realistic one. I receive many emails asking "how?". There's no easy way and everyone takes their own path to it. BUT, there's no point trading...
Thanks for your kind words and support. I'm glad you found my article interesting and enjoyable.
I hope some of you do get to try a lean-to in the snow this winter. I'll look forward to seeing your pictures and reading your trip reports/blogs.
All the very best for 2013! :)
Paul
Thanks for a great weekend guys.
Thanks also for this thread - I enjoyed reading through it. And as always, Windy managed to make me laugh out loud :)
Take care with those axes guys and I look forward to seeing you all again before too long.
All the best,
Paul
Hi all,
I've added a write-up of the weekend to the Frontier Blog here.
Thanks again for organising the weekend and thanks also for the photos you sent to me :)
All the best,
Paul
It was indeed a great weekend - a lot of laughter and learning (by me too)
It was good to see old friends and to make new ones. It's wonderful to spend time in the woods with such genuine, friendly people.
Can't wait until the next one.
Thanks again to all involved.
Cheers,
Paul
Hi there,
Annie - as Mesquite rightly suggests, there will be a camp shower as well as other washing facilities.
Hygiene is also one of the subjects we cover.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to drop us an email.
All the best,
Paul
As demographic (and others) have said, it makes sense to search your own name or company name from time-to-time. It's good to learn from feedback (good or bad) and there are other reasons too. For instance, even though there are clear copyright notices on my blog, I've found my articles cut...
Hey Jonathan,
That's a lovely bit of nostalgia, and a great keepsake to remind you of a formative time in your life. The back-drop information on model and version history is interesting too. Thanks for sharing.
Best
Paul
Hi guys
Thanks to Mesquite, Wayland and MartinK9 for sharing their photos. I've written a post about the weekend on the Frontier Bushcraft blog. You can go straight to the blog post with the link below:
