Im surprised there aren't more incidents with fire. A colleague was telling me he visited an old fishing spot recently, hadnt been in years, place was covered in broken bottles and three burnt out tents, cheap fishing rods snapped and left and loads of line etc strewn across bushes and trees...
Passed through the Galloway Forest on Saturday and for some reason it was like a main street, lots of groups of lads, football tops or no tops, crates of lager etc, and the same type of Halfords/Aldi's tent everywhere for miles of track. Drove through from the north at Loch Bradan and made our...
Thanks folks. I should've mentioned that a local lady mentioned there are adders in that area. Worth noting if you have nosey dogs. (or you're a wee bit nosey yourself)
My main criteria for selecting this bag:
1 - It had to have enough room, Im 6'4
2 - Under £100
3 - Warm enough for frosty Scottish 'Summers'
I picked it up for under £50 so thought that at the very least it would provide a decent summer bag if I treat myself later in the year to a better...
Firstly a disclaimer that I am by no means an expert in any of the skills or practices that I enjoy reading about on here. I have been guilty of emptying my flat into my rucksack/s and stopping at every Tesco on my way to previous 'Wild Camps'. However over the last couple of years, when time...
Interesting you mention this. I was running my dogs last night and whilst one was off sniffing around I noticed a large (in comparison to a fox, which is the only thing I would expect to see there) dark figure slinking through the grass and onto the fairway in front of me. A few things
- It was...
Hi Folks,
I was wondering if you know of any fairly accessible camping spots down by Dumfries and Galloway. I will be attending a foraging day near loch Trool on Saturday and it will be my friends first time away. So I was looking for somewhere that I could get my truck to and camp without...

I use this chap for our annual awards. He is a great bowl turner, and makes beautiful pens too. Would make one to your spec Im sure. I have him working on a commission for me at the moment.
Given these as a gift during the week however they are to wee for me. They are xxl and marked as 38 inch waist, regular length.
They are brand new and value I reckon is approx £20-£25?!

Will consider all offers :)
I have two deerhound x. 1/4 Greyhound as I didnt want a purebred. Great company, bit of a lack of stamina and they dont enjoy the warmer months. However at night or through the autumn/winter they are great hounds. I made a bit of a problem for myself by limiting theyre jumping trianing. As pups...
The ned insights are hilarious and 100% accurate.
BillyBlade - My main interest at this stage is foraging. Along the way it would be great to pick up skills on the essentials like fire and shelter.
I havent seen a city like Glasgow with so much on its doorstep. We are pretty lucky that way. Maybe not so lucky in other ways, like the plagues of neds you see every now and then :(
Thanks everyone.
Toddy - In my snooping so far I had notice a few members with location as South Lanarkshire. I would be up for a meet up. As I say I am really just beginning, but more than willing to help out in anyway I can. Its a bit frustrating having the Braes on my doorstep and not...
Hey,
Finding a bit more time for myself these days and gradually racking up some nice trips wild camping and researching for next years adventures. Hoping to educate myself a little in the ways of foraging, softly softly.
Heading down to the borders in a couple of weeks for a day out in...
For trips where I cant haul the big tent far, I usually head for Glen Etive. A few Nice spots along the road and within walking/dragging distance. Im not sure of the travel time from York. Takes me roughly 2 hours from Glasgow from what I remember. The river at Etive provides some entertainment...
I dont know if theyre popular elsewhere or not but i bought a pair of Le Crosse about 5 years ago. Good few hundred mile out of them and they are only now begining to give up. They are fairly heavy but they are very comfortable and have kept my feet dry until recently letting in a little water
