Try it for a night and you'll be able to answer your own question. Comfort and convenience mainly.

Going out for the first time...

Have you got a rucksack of some description? (Aldi are doing a reasonably ok one for £19 or you can pick up a good PLCE one from evil bay). As a general rule you should be able to carry all of year gear on yer back and take it in a single trip. Or you could put everything in plastic bags and...

Haha :lmao: I was out there for Saif Sarreea II aswell spamel! Ahhhhh Tanuf........... There was so much of that stuff to hand that you could shower in it :p Never quite figured out why it was thrice purified (or why it had to be purified three times  ). And if your going down...

    Oman?

Its very hot in Oman, I spent 2 months out there in 2004 and its 50 degrees C all day everyday!! Places of interest are Muscat which is the Capital I beleive, lots of Bizaares and stuff (and air con). The taxi drivers all have death wishes so be careful. There's a mountain region down south...

    source of leather?

I've just ordered some veggie tan from brisa, they specialise in knife bits so they're ideal, only downside is they're i sweden and charge 10 Euros P&P so its only a good idea if your gonna buy a few bits and bobs aswell. That said they sell the threads and tools needed for sheath making...

I've got friends in the marines who had worm omlettes during training and theyre both still here ;) Would rather just have the omellete myself as I wouldn't have thought they'd have much nutritional value (well not as much as the eggs :p )

    Ray Mears.com

Yup, you'd think mr Meyer's web master could update the site and then upload it rather than bringing the whole thing down for maintainance. If he wants a good one maybe I'll offer my services :p

    Safety Always...

I can vouch for it being quite a considerable "kiss" by the old gransfors. Was a very important lesson to be learned by all present and I shall be investing in a more comprehensive kit than the first field dressing I currently carry. I did get value for money mind as I got to see the nurse...

    Army Surplus gear any good

I was a soldier for 6 years and from personal experience the majority of soldiers don't actually use the army issue bags favouring the Snugpak Softie Merlin 3 instead, although the current army issue bags are very good the Merlin is just as warm and comfortable but is half the size and half the...

    Which Hennessy Hammock?

Cheers guys, I think for the sake of an extra £20 I think I'll go for the deluxe as theres not a great difference in weight and the fabric seems to be a bit more heavy duty. Plus you'd buy a double bed rather than a single bed if you had the room wouldn't you????? :p Descision made...
