OK finally got around to getting some more done today on my bow and it aint broke yet!!
couple of knots im a bit bothered about. Second one seems ok, but the other seems to have opened up a bit >.<
Its lemonwood backed with hickory btw
was glued when I bought it. Having worked on it today, I doubt the missing bit of glue will make a difference but in going to epoxy it anyway.
As for the the 'riser' as such it was glued on badly when i got it, but im thinking its gotta come off and be replaced with some fat leather or cork as...
I'm makin a longbow at the moment from a hickory backed lemonwood stave.
Part tillered im ready for rounding the belly off some more but im not sure i i need to add a riser to this side as well as the back?
I also noticed that around the handle area the glue kinda missed and didnt stick, so...
you can make a regular sheath but instead of folding the top for a belt loop leave it out like a tab and punch holes for a neck cord. Another alternative is to just add a D ring to your existing sheaths belt loop.
That looks really good.
I like lauri blades very cheap and excellent quality....
The bolsters are a pain to fit due to the partially ground tang but with bit of patience and plenty needle filework you can get a good square fit.
vulcanised fibre is the coloured stuff you see.
you can also use brass plate or aluminium etc. which if you put plenty holes in will reduce the weight and help the epoxy take a good grip..
Just reading about catapults in another thread and was wondering if there was any ifo out there on making and using slingshots cant seem to find anything other than on actual catapults?
I'm off with the mrs to anglesey this afternoon for the night on red wharf bay camping (bennlech) even though its a regular spot for us I was wondering if anyone could give us some not to miss palces to visit/ things to do? needs to be free :lmao:
Dave
Yes thats right unknown very hard wood from a pallet board, any ideas what it is?
Strange stuff brown in appearance till i started to cut it which brought out a kind of purpleish pink with a black tinge to the middle:rolleyes:
