    Parabolic Blueprint

Here is an article I found on making a parabolic mirror. I have yet to try this but someone with a little more time should be able to tackle this project in a day. Let me know how it goes. Given: the focal length only. This can be any distance you want to work with and is nothing but the...

    Overlooking the Obvious?

I live in a place where the humidity hangs around 90+% year round, and most of the time it takes a bit of work to get a nice coal. However in say the desert SW of the US where humidity hangs about 30-50% much much easier so I accomodate the method to the temperate climate around me. A bamboo...

Big & Tall vs. Short & Small

Ok I did a small study on the phisiological aspects on the need for nutrition for larger people and smaller people. Who would be able to survive a harsh environment more? I am a large guy 6'1" 265 lbs. I use more energy going up and down hillsides than that of someone say 5'5" and 145 lbs...

    Fire Piston Gasket

Usually the cotton gasket on a fire piston will not last too long especially in humid climates. They fray easily and wick moisture which causes more drag on the plunger. I used mine for the entire 4 month outing. On day 2 I was haing problems with high humidity and lack of compression, on day...

After a few months away I have finally returned to my bushcraft family! I have been out getting photos of my new skills book, so its een quite a journey. Since a majority of everyone is in the UK. I'll try to post as many as I can with accompanied text. It's good to be home, but now the...

An excerpt from the book Archaic Footprints

Experimental but not stupid. When we walk away from our familiar environment, we are technically lost. But it is how we trace our steps that we remain able to find our way out. Sometimes we lose track of time or distance and after a few turns or twists we land in a whole new world. Usually...

    Finally!

Well it's been a while since I have been on with my fellow bushcrafters, but I wanted to announce that I had finally finished my book on Primitive Bushcraft. I will post a few pages on here if Tony is ok with it, but I am really glad the ordeal is over! If anyone would like to proof read it...

    Fire Piston gasket

just a note: Upholstry thread serves as a very reliable fire piston gasket. It makes a great seal, a little time consuming but seals air very well, and lasts about twice as long as the cotton thread.

    Traditionalism vs Modernism

When I first came into the wilderness world it was in the form of survival. I could not get enough information nor be out in the bush enough. Over the years though I found that as my skills became more advanced and proficient in using them, the more I steered away from the modern way of doing...

Celts & Handaxe whats in your pack?

I always used to carry and sometimes still do carry a Steil folding saw. But since I have gone with less and less modern tools I have started cutting with my new celt that I made from riverstone, and usually either a basalt hand axe or one made from chert (flint) to cut small saplings...

    Greenstone & Rock Pecking

I was going to make a celt after all these years of using a hand axe. I want to expand my primitive toolbox by rock pecking a greenstone piece, the only problem is that I cannot find any greenstone, most all limestone here. So does anyone have an alternate stone that will serve as a Celt? Any...
