Bushcraftuk.com seems less and less populated nowadays.. :(

Well, I guess we'll just have to get a lot of the old members back then... keep to what worked best before: members reporting on things they had done that were informative and entertaining, days out, how to's, look what I found, here's what I made sort of stuff. I've just logged on here for the...

    Never lend someone your axe!

So. not. cool. Looks like you had a really nice finish on the haft as well, I too did the camp craft course and i know the amount of hours that go into getting the right texture on the helve, that just sucks so bad, abused in so many ways without anyone giving a second thought or owning up. I...

    Re-handling a Mora - How I did it. (v. pic heavy)

Cheers Topknot, one of the best parts of the project was improvising the tools, still surprised they worked as well as they did though. paddy

    Re-handling a Mora - How I did it. (v. pic heavy)

That would look really unique, worth a try. The black layer is just a strip of thin black leather, i'll edit that into the post. It just ensures a slightly stronger fit between the wood and the brass. paddy

    Re-handling a Mora - How I did it. (v. pic heavy)

That could well work, I would just make sure the surface features are filed/sanded flat so that you get a clean joint with the rest of the handle. I look forward to seeing the end result. :) paddy

    Re-handling a Mora - How I did it. (v. pic heavy)

Thanks for all the feedback chaps :) I used a small stone grinding wheel to take most of the material off and then a small file to shape it. Beyond that was just fine grade sandpaper. I'm always surprised how easily brass works, as long as you have a file, you'll be grand. paddy

    Re-handling a Mora - How I did it. (v. pic heavy)

Thought you might pick up on that Robbi :) I managed to get my hands on some leather, basic tools, thread and dye, just need to read up sufficiently on how to do it and then give it a try, not sue how it will turn out though! paddy

Hello Folks! It has been quite some time since I contributed anything on this forum, so I best re-introduce myself. I'm Patrick, I'm a 2nd year forestry student at University College Dublin and I really enjoy bushcraft and traditional crafts, especially the sort that involves playing with axes...

    Campcraft questions

The method i use for suspending a pot really depends on my surroundings and what materials are handy, if there are big logs or appropriately shaped rocks i would rest the wagon stick over a large log and then have another log or a rock resting on the back of it, but if the right wood is...

    Elder?

Looks like Elder (Sambucus nigra) to me! good spot. One good way of recognising it is by the smell of the sap, its difficult to describe but its very distinctive and you'll be able to pick it out anywhere. Also if you can find a nice straight branch as thick as your finger and about half a meter...
