Im thinking I might just pack some kit and drive up there today and see if I cant lose myself for a week. Heres a long shot, anyone fancy coming? Im looking...

    Bureau of Public Secrets

Just stumbled across this looking for something completely unrelated. An interesting read, kindof reminds me of Nessmuk http://www.bopsecrets.org/rexroth/camping/1.htm

    So much for green woodworking.....

I turned myself a couple of little bowls and carved a spoon out of some lovely well figured plum that I felled for a friend over christmas. The bowls lasted less than 24 hours aarrrgghhh! I think the spoon is still ok but I gave that to the original owner of the tree.

    Traditional butcher

I was pleasantly surprised to find this on the junk knife stall at Birmingham market. The irritating stall holder wouldnt accept that the ugly rosewood scales were warped to hell, 3 mm gap between tang and scale  but I still didnt mind paying £5 :D for a Sheffield made carbon steel...

    Free firewood in Birmingham

A long shot I know but I have a pile of roughly sawn green Willow logs in the garden that I'd be delighted to get rid of if anybody with a real fire is passing M6 J7 in a landrover! A few days wood for the winter or a lifetime and then some supply of bow drill sets!

    Big chopper..........

Does it have any bushcraft uses? Probably not but when I spotted this at a market for a £1 I couldnt resist, another nicely forged bit of steel from Elwell, made for the army during WWII. Its certainly too heavy for me to swing safely and I wouldnt want to carry it at 1.6KG, it has an edge all...

Latest ebay bargain....draw knife this time

    Billhook help..........

With all the talk of billhooks I wanted to try one for myself, I particularly like the idea of using traditional tools anyway and if they also happen to be old and well used all the better. I picked this one up on ebay for under a tenner and fitted a new Walnut handle (quite a tricky job, I...

    Mulberry jam

Ive just picked a couple pound of Mulberries from the old tree in our local park, not a native tree, neither is it likely to be encountered in the "wild" over here but Mulberries make great jam as long as you throw in a crab apple for pectin. I need to go back and get some more fruit as it...
