I hope this isn't a stupid question but are dock(the type you use on nettle stings)and burdock the same plant.I have been searching for burdock everywhere and all i can find is the common dock any help will be much appreciated. Davy

Thanks for the pics it is diffidently a birch poly pore,are there any other uses for it other than plasters.

Does the horses hoof fungi grow on felled birched trees?I was out for a dander this morning and saw some fungi on the birch I think it is the same stuff as Ray uses for plasters.I have no photos but if any body could post some pics it would be a great help. Thanks in advance Davy.

The kit that i carry with me is cotton wool soaked in vasaline a small hexy block a fire steel and a piece of rubber inner tube all packed into a small tobacco tin sealed with tape.You can always collect the stuff for a bigger fire on the trail.You can aso buy a small nato matchless fire kit...

I have found that plumbers flax works very well it is made from hemp and you can buy it in b+q for three quid for a big bundle. :)
