    Handle Came Of My Mora

That would not happen to a KJ Eriksson model, just sayin' :D

'Just get a Gransfors..' Axes, axes, axes!

Please keep in mind that the Gransfors are modern axes, they are not old timy at all. Before this current trend, Gransfors looked much like your common axe you already owned before the fashion craze hit. Do your research and you will see the old designs. I have hults bruks axes made in Sweden...

    Commando/Toggle Rope

A great find and the old ones look nice, but there is no reason why one could not use modern climbing rope and caribiner and make these even stronger than the originals. There is nothing in bushcraft that means old or anti-modern, it is just bushcraft which means bush skills.

    new Mora Companion

Wood handle being full tang? Not any more! While Mora of Sweden made a better Clipper in the new Companion, using a larger blade, larger handle, and longer tang...the wood handles by Mora of Sweden can no longer be seen at the end like the old red handle Moras, so now I suspect a 3/4 tang.

Les Stroud joins RM and BG

He didn't "decide", Helle decided that they wanted to make a knife that les would have input on so they asked Les and he agreeded; he did not decide to make a survival knife for the masses and then set out to find a company to make it.

    General Bushcraft Knife

For a slicer nothing beats a flat grind, for a wood working knife a Scandi grind. The Enzo Trapper is a fine design for the woods.

Most popular style of bushcraft knife

"Scandinavian style knife" has been around much longer than a "Bushcrafter" so they are in more hands and will continue to be so for a while due to the price.

case sodbusters (and other american brands) over-priced in the uk?

Does anyone else have a Sodbuster from Czechoslovakia? Not the republic, mine says Czechoslovakia on the blade but no other markings to indicate maker. It has a very strong backspring.

    Mini/Button compass

I recommend the Sunnto Clipper compass with a glow-in-the-dark dial (there is also a non-glow model that is the same) because it has a direction of travel arrow, a step up from the featureless button compass.

    My first bushcraft knife

I keep harping on that point to my fellow Canadians when they go on and on about battoning as a regular way to chop wood. It is only for emergencies but I have done it with a Mora. I prefer the KJ Eriksson models because they have longer tangs. I even bought a new Frosts of Sweden red wood...

    Cardboard oven

It's just sick that he won 50,000 pounds for something that made school children has already made and is in many hippy/alt energy/survival books. Imagine winning 50,000 pounds for reprinting the Bible, original eh?

    Survival v Bushcraft?

I find that many folks who carry bush craft knives know how to use them, while those who ONLY carry a large Rambo type knife only has fantasies of using it. With the exception of tribes people already living in the bush. If a person carries a bush craft knife and a larger knife, they are...

    is it game or bushknife??

I bought a 4" drop point blade a guy made and used to skin a moose and deer. At 1/8" thick I call it my lightweight hiking knife rather than hunting knife. However, I am thinking that I want a thicker scandi grind for use on wood and keep the drop point for food prep and hunting. I'd say...

    Show me your little outdoorkitchen

Thanks very much for showing your kit guys, it's nice to see different set ups for different styles of camping. I use just one pot of a 2 pot stainless steel pot set with my kitchen inside but stove (Whisperlite International or Pocket Rocket) in a seperate bag. I am looking on the local...

    Axe or Hatchet?

I find myself being pulled toward a SFA because those that have been there, done that, and wrote the book all recommend. However, most of those guys lived way up North or lived more than 50 years ago. Being in the city and going for weekend trips I can do all I need to do with a 9" Becker BK9...

    British Army Knife

Because they are surplus gear and civy brands of knives are much easier to get. If you have a few thousand of one knife, a few million of another knife, then the billions of people on the planet are more likely to have the more common civy knife on them. Everyone has heard of Swiss Army...

    Becoming a Tracking Intructor

Tracking has nothing to do with shamans. Tracking is a skill used by every primitive culture to find animals for food. No one makes you a tracker, there is no government Board of Certification for tracking. You take courses with money, learn from others for free or barter, or self-study. You...

    LOst Me MOra

I bought a $50 Swiss Army knife and was playing with it on the bus directly after buying it, got home to discover that I lost it! I was so distraught that I went out and bought another one the next day. $100 Swiss Army knife :(

    Antarctic/arctic kit

Just remember that there is wet/cold conditions and dry/cold conditions. Also, what works at -10 C may not work at -40 C. Artic gear is not always best for other cold locations.
