    Splicing

That reminds me, I need a new fid....I managed to lose mine last year! No big deal as it was simply a short lenght of 8mm copper domestic heating pipe cut off at an angle and the rags sanded down....just as usefull as a spike for splicing but being hollow you can push it through, slip the line...

info cooking on scrap steel homemade grate please help!!!

As stated above anything with a zinc coating should be avoided, think about what everyday cooking pots, utensils, BBQ grilles etc are made from....aluminium, stainless steel, cast iron, copper, brass, bronze....so anything of the iron/steel, copper or aluminium family should be fine, the only...

    what car you driving?

I have a Discovery 1 and a Series 3 88" landrover, neither of which require comptermebobs to fix them so keeping them running is that bit cheaper, especially as one runs on waste veg oil! Neither are big enough at times, despite having roofrack or ladder bars fitted, I have two trailers for...

    Two of those days.

Always best to get all of your bad luck out of the way within the area of home.......!;) My gearstick once snapped off just as I arrived home from taking the wife shopping...."that was lucky!" said the wife. We were due to drive the same motor 500miles south the following weekend and this would...

    Bushcraft Show or Wilderness Gathering?

I've not got an OZtent southey, but I have been known to get me tarp in a tangle before today when the wind blows against me.....;)

    Bushcraft Show or Wilderness Gathering?

Yes Southey, I agree it may well have been mentioned on the forum, but not on this thread prior to Anthony's post, nor since, before my reply. As Anthony asked " we found out about these shows so anyone know if these shows are any good? " and no one had mention the AO show in any reply, I think...

    Bushcraft Show or Wilderness Gathering?

Sorry Chris unless I've missed something between Anthony's post and mine I don't think anyone has made mention of his content persey, with the exception of the immediate post following Anthony's (Tinderfoot's post refering to WG and BS) which I took as being a reply to an earlier post. Please...

    Tuna can oil lamp

Love it..... I shall just have to light a tin of Tuna if only for the giggling and shaking of heads reaction......I'll be stuffing baked potatoes with the tuna afterwards. Now if anyone know a way to make light with a sachet of mayonaise .....!

    Bushcraft Show or Wilderness Gathering?

As no one seems to have answered you Anthony, you seem to approach your bushcraft in a similar way that I do, i.e. not as an entity in it's own right but as part of an overall picture, I've never been to a bushcraft show and I think it's fair to say many are little bit south from us northerners...

    Possession of an Offensive Weapon.

Been a while since I've visited here, and hey ho! the legal knife debate again.......forget about size folks, you can be arrested for carry a weapon even if it's only a 2" blade (yep a mate of mine did for a 1.5" folding fruit knife in Peterbrough, although he did open it in a pub but had no...

    Health: Tick Awareness

This may have been poster previously elsewere, I didn't do a search, as even if it has it is worth posting again in an effort to increase awareness of the dangers of "Ticks". Disease spread by ticks is on the increase and Bushcrafters by the nature of their pastime are likely to be in an...

What tree/shrub species have a pith?

"any suggestions on how can I bore the 'bore' to create a cylinder out of solid stemmed species" Would it be worth burning a bore out with a hot steel polka, followed by a clean out of the charded inner walls to size...? smoggy

    i little rant

I can see no justification for littering anywhere, be it a remote beauty spot, a country car park or your own urban front door step. It is anti social, ignorant and possibly unhealthy and some times possitively dangerous. Smoggy.

For those lucky enough to drive cars that can use veggie oil

I've run my 200tdi Landrover on veg for a couple of years or so now as many do..... There are a couple of ther things worth mentioning......on start up when the veg is and engine is cold, unburned residue in the cyclinders work it's way into the sump....not a huge pproblem if you change...

Brainwave - feel free to expand on it.

I congratulate you on thinking outside the box.....I would also like to point out to those who choose to ridicule that using friction or compression methods to produce an ember is as ludicrus as putting wheels on a tomato in this day and age, as futile as putting a man on the moon in fact....but...

    Eucalyptus... Food safe?

I've got a Euc to remove from my mothers garden, same as above, planted a few years back and now dominates the place! It's going to be a long job in a confined space, but should keep me in fuel for a year or more! The above "inteli health" quote surely refers to euc oils and medicines which...

What would you teach a newby in their first weekend in the woods?

Given the variables, of age and gender.....and everyone being an individual.... I wouldn't teach per say.....I'd demonstrate, just doing what ever it is I needed to do and probably ask them to help me in some way.....gather kindling/wood etc and explain as we went along.....That way they learn...
