newbie kit advice - lots of questions sorry

I really don't see the point of hooped bivvy bags. The benefit of a bivvy is that it has no pegs, and can go anywhere. And as others have said, you can add a tarp if it gets very wet. It really does depend where you are going though - love bivvies as I do, I would not want to be in one halfway...

    "Best" bushcraft book...?

For books to take out with you, you want something as small and light as possible - Collins Gem are perfect. The CG printing of the SAS Survival Handbook is the classic one, but they also do "Trees", "Mushrooms" and "Food for Free" - all very handy reference guides

    Enzo Trapper Sheath

It also looks as though you have drilled the holes - they are quite big. Pushing an awl through the leather allows it to close up after you have stiched the holes, which looks alot neater.

2" Steel O Rings for hammock mod

Having bought a DD hammock through the recent group buy, I want to modify it to add a steel O ring at each end, in the style of the RM eco sleep system hammock. I have bought 10 O rings from the bay, that are 2" ID, welded steel, nickel plated, and I only need to use 2 - so I have 4 pairs...

    Dead wood for friction fire

The method I was taught was to scrape the bark off the wood, and press your thumb nail into the wood. If you can just about make an impression, then the wood is good to go for bow drilling. And with willow you have already found one of the right trees :D

Hi Sandbag, Now that I have the hammock from you, I have read various things about the hootchie / basha tarps not being large enough for dry hammock camping - so if I am not too late, can I now get one of the 3 x 3 DD tarps please?
