Help to identify knife

You mean the thickness of the blade? Its about 5mm thick. Santaman2000...this knife seems a bit too small to be a meat cleaver. But that is really the best explanation so far :)

Hi everyone... Got this knife in New Zealand not too long ago. Can't seem to find any information on it's use and purpose. Odd shape on the spine (the recess) Any clue? [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] Thanks in advance.

Where to get axe heads only

Thanks for all the info guys. Yes, working with the bladesmith to make an axe is definitely on my to do list now. Naturally, they are scared to try something they are not familiar with. SCM..yes, the two knives on the right are both hollow handles. When I told the bladesmith that I have an...

Where to get axe heads only

Oh...and here is another version of what is called a 'pig sticker' (extreme right) The blade is about 10inches, clip point. The indigenous people use this for hunting as well and it doubles as both a small parang and what a friend refers to as 'Mercy blade'.

Where to get axe heads only

I asked a few indigenous friends I know and I got different replies honestly. But from what I understand, they use it with either a long piece of stick or close range. Boar they hunt normally is caught in some sort of trap and they use the spear the kill it, stabbing it underneath the front...

Where to get axe heads only

Oh...I must have hit some interest there :) This is made by local blade smith for indigenous people for hunting. It is a tricky thing to own for the rest of us cause the Malaysian law technically does not allow double edge blades. Below is the only pic I have. Taken with my phone some time...

Where to get axe heads only

Can anyone tell me where I can order axe head only (without the handle) I have a small project and may need a few. Would very much prefer not to buy a completely good axe and remove the handle. Mr Moderator...please remove my post if this is not the right place for it. Thanks

An axe with a flexible wood handle

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the comments. I made the video solely because I am amazed at how much traditional craft and knowledge that still exists within Stem and his people. The Semelai tribe, according to some books have made Lake Bera their home for more than 600 years and for that I think...

Is there such a thing as a flexible axe handle?

Sorry for reviving an old thread. I manage to finalize the video and made it live on Youtube. This is the handle I was talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROADkz8vi_4

Is there such a thing as a flexible axe handle?

Thanks guys. Really appreciate the info. That makes sense. The 'flexibility' and 'springy' action is exactly for the same reason the guy told me. What amazes me is that the diameter of the wood is no bigger than 3cm yet it really flexes! He told me that if that particular wood is soaked in...

Is there such a thing as a flexible axe handle?

Hi everyone... I thought this would be the best place to ask. I recently had the privilege of witnessing an axe with a wooden handle that is flexible. It is not rattan. But it is really 'springy'. Is this something common among some designs of axe handles? pardon my ignorance but I am really...
