    Luna the Orca

I watched this as well, very interesting and thought-provoking programme; and I agree, the "non-watchable whale" statement sounded rediculous lol. Also, I couldn't believe one of the men giving his view near the end of the programme, who chuckled merrily whilst saying he was the happiest guy...

    Kit buying

Thanks for the replies, the stove is a campingaz twister 270PZ. What about extra ropes etc. - should i bring any extra ropes apart from the ones supplied with the hammock and tarp? I'm quite looking forward to camping in forrests etc. but will keep the tent suggestion in mind.

    Kit buying

Hi all, since christmas is coming up, I figure this is the ideal time to stock up on some kit I'll need for my first ventures into the wild next year. I went to a campsite this year, so have got a stove, messtins, fok/knife, cup, sleeping bag and a good water-proof jacket. I'll be asking...

    Ray Mears in Glasgow

I'd got tickets for this a good while ago and was really eager to go: well worth the wait, a great night, apart from that grizzly moment. Missed the signs about buying the books at the interval though, so a bit disappointed that I missed out on the signing, should have been more observant.

    loch ard forest

Thanks for that, I know this sounds stupid, but I take it that you get to that island by canoe, I love the idea of canoeing but have never tried it and have no idea where I could learn to do it? Is the bivvy you mentioned on the island, or shoud I use a hammock and tarp if overnighting...

    loch ard forest

Hi all, I'm hoping to go and try some wild camping up by loch ard early spring - in the loch ard forest - and having never been before was wondering if anyone on here has camped around there before, and if so would they suggest anywhere? (I know its a while away but I'll go up and have a...

Start my countryside and enviromental management course tomorrow

Hi all, (Apologies for hi-jacking the thread), but on a similar thread: I'm filling in my UCAS form (the form we've got to fill in to apply to university) just now in school and we've got five choices to fill in: I'd like to make a couple of the choices for degree courses which would lead to...

    book reccomendations for beginner

Hi all, haven't been wild camping yet as I've still to learn the navigation and bushcraft skills (basically, everything), so since the "summer's" gone, I'll probably be waiting till next spring, when I hope to go on a taster bushcraft course for a few days to learn what I need to (I think...

    map reading

Hi all, i've been wanting to go hillwalking for years (i find the scenery awe-inspiring when passing through the trossachs area in the car), but to be honest I've got no idea where to start: the whole prospect's intimidating but I really want to do it. As said, I really don't have a clue...

    new to this

thanks for that, so it's ok to camp beside, or at the area surrounding, the lochs (such as venachar and lubnaig etc.) and in the forests run by the forestry commission (such as the forest near loch ard), yes? Also, it'll probably mention this in the outdoors code thing which i haven't had a...

    Trossachs campsites

Hi all, went up to Cobleland campsite near Aberfoyle today with the intention of staying the weekend only to discover once we got there that the minimum age for staying there had been raised to 18...sigh (we're all 17 for another few weeks). This posibility didn't even cross my mind as we...

    new to this

Hi all, new to this site and the outdoors really - went camping for the first time last year (actual camping, not in my back garden) and flyfishing too, really enjoyed them both. I've read a few threads about camping outwith campsites here in Scotland and admitedly I'm totaly confused as to...
