    what Budget knife recommendations

What’s it for? Yes a knife is a tool, but it helps to have the right tool for the job. The more info we have, the more we can help. For example, a Scandi grind blade is great for a lot of bushcraft tasks, but if you’re wanting to do food prep, skin/gralloch critters, butchery in the field etc...

    Greeting from Vilnius, Lithuania!

Welcome! To Goretex or not to Goretex, that is the question. It’s a double edged sword that’s for sure when it’s really lashing it down. I’m a Meindl fan, but if you want something with a more military feel then check out Altberg. There are lots of other great boot makers out there - Lowa...

Newbie - Advice on MTB Bergan Hip Support?

Brilliant! I’m still serving so big respect for doing that. Put the details up if you have a JustGiving page or something along those lines and I’ll make a donation in support. Best of luck, grizz it out and get it done!

Newbie - Advice on MTB Bergan Hip Support?

Jay Jays kit is good, but the issued bergen is designed to be worn with belt kit so it won’t be the solution for you. Seriously, get a decent civvy hiking rucksack that has been engineered to fit human beings. Your entire musculoskeletal system will thank you and it’ll save you from looking...

    Orange is the New Black

As a field archer, I often spend a lot of time looking for arrows (probably says something about my skill level). Throughout the seasons, the colour I’ve found that stands out the most when rooting through the forest floor for arrows is pink - so all my arrows now carry a pink cock feather...

    New hiking boots, reccomendations

If you’re looking for lightweight, I’d look to Salomon, Arcteryx or Scarpa. I’d say Salomon definitely have a tendency to run narrow. You can’t go wrong with any of them, though Arcteryx gets my vote.

Found out that they do, only they call it the “Park Pack”. It’s not cheap either!

    Wanted Kifaru E&E

Would be nice if Pocketup offered an improved E&E. Might get in touch with them to see if such a thing is feasible.

    Trapping, numbers game

Apologies, I got called away so didn’t finish my previous post. Fishing is fishing, trapping is trapping. Both are art forms of their own and deserve to be recognized as such. In terms of trapping, the more you have out the higher your percentage of success. It’s a simple equation, put in the...

    Trapping, numbers game

Assuming there’s a body of water with fish in it. But then the OP is asking about trapping, not fishing.

    Instinctive Archery. Your experience please.

You said your problem is consistency, so there you have it. You’ve already identified what’s going wrong. Instinctive archery is unforgiving of imperfection. Work on your form, I recommend Tom Clum’s videos on YouTube for honing your technique, body mechanics and building a consistent shot...

    Waterproof outer layer advice

Having been issued pretty much every waterproof shell layer manufactured for British forces in the last 20 years, there is no way in hell I would part with my own hard earned cash for any of them. They are ok as issued kit, as a) you didn’t pay for it and b) when it is no longer waterproof...

    Spare fuel in the car

It’s a difference of mindset. I like to have things that I don’t necessarily need, because it’s better that I have them in the rare eventuality that I need them. I carry a spare jerry of diesel in the truck. Have I ever needed to use it? No. Does keeping it in the back of my truck inconvenience...

    Mushrooms as a survival food.

They offer very little from a nutritional standpoint. Low in calories, very little protein, zero fat and low carb too. They’ll fill an empty stomach, but you won’t be surviving on them if you’re running a calorie deficit.
