    Old School Shades

I’m pleased with them. They will work well with the rest of my gear. This next trip is becoming a bit of a fashion parade. We are all pimping our kit because we were basically ready for it last year. I think I might have to sub title this one “Tarts in the Arctic” …

    Old School Shades

My new/old snow goggles have arrived. The original lenses were cracked and de-laminated so I’ve swapped them out for some acrylic ones. Brushed up the rims a bit and they are good for another few decades I reckon. They came in a dinky little tin as well. Not sure how old there are but the...

    Marinowul+ Shocking Misrepresentation.

Just came across this mentioned in another place and I thought it was disgraceful. A plastic fleece fabric being marketed as "Marinowul+" https://www.trademarkelite.com/trademark/trademark-detail/90461445/MARINOWUL- That's not designed to be misleading at all is it? Always found Orvis to be...

    Using broken stuff for Bushcrafting

I break down lots of things for raw materials and they go into the hoard until I find a use for them. The dustbin is a last resort for me.

    Saw Point

I don’t know, it’s all going to be an experiment really. I’ve seen people building with all sorts of sizes of block so I’m not sure the length is too important. I think it is more about the lifting surface. I’ll let you know when I’ve tried it out.

    Saw Point

Recently I took a new look at the saws I was carrying into the winter woods. For a long time I just carried a Laplander and a light weight wooden snow knife that I made based upon an Inuit design. I own a classic Camp Snow Saw but rarely carry the thing because it is so heavy and only really...

    Winter is coming.

I have a pile of good quality knitwear that I can only wear at home or outdoors now.

    Winter is coming.

It's getting to that point where I have to strip down a couple of layers when I step into most buildings now.

    Car traction mats

Snow Socks have saved my hide a few times. Just put them into the van for this winter. Essential kit imo.

    What did you buy today?

Just picked up a couple of "Rensare" dry bags from IKEA. Great value at £2.50 each. They do a smaller size for £1.50 as well.

    Damian O'Toole R.I.P.

For those of you that knew Damian, who sadly passed away almost a year ago now, I have a provisional date for the memorial, which was delayed because of Covid of course. Subject to confirmation of the booking this will now be held in Coventry on 20th November 2021 from 12:30 until 6pm. I will...

    Winter is coming.

When the "Beast from the East" hit and the motorways up here got fouled up I had a booking on the other side of the country. 86 miles away. I left the motorways and headed for the back roads, following my GPS. Unsurprisingly the snow was much deeper there but at least they were clear of idiots...
