    Slugs deterrent

Wee blue pellets. They're supposed to be safe for organic gardening. I know they're the only thing that allows me to grow a lot of things.

    Brecklands Wild Camp

That was a most enjoyably peaceful film :) Totally embraced the 'chill out asap' ethos  Thank you for sharing, and taking the time to make and post. M

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

I keep garden pruners in my jacket pocket. Little by little you can work wonders on a snarled path :)

    Worn Ferro rods

I had one like that. I managed to get it out of the handle and turn it around. The glue that held it in kind of mucked up a clean swipe down to the end at first, but it eventually cleaned off just fine.

    Self contained ignition

The apocryphal tale of the squaddie stretchered backside upwards into an army ward and a plummy voiced Matron is heard saying, "Oh God ! they've been lighting their farts again, haven't they ?" All well and good until there's a vacuum effect, or reverse chimney  Truthfully, I cannot...

You cannot exist solitary; not in Scotland, not without any interaction with others. My Dad lived wild on Rannoch Moor in the 'hungry thirties', but he survived not just on his hunting and fishing, but on the kindness of the local farmers wives. They gave him oatmeal, eggs, crowdie, etc., as...

    Eco-friendly Clog-Popping

I'm sorry to hear of this, Chris. My brother died in June and even knowing it was inevitable, it's not easy. Heartfelt condolences. Embalming is toxic. The claims about it being safe are mince. It's toxic. Do as little as possible to the body before either burial or destruction and it's a much...

Heads Up Evri scam (I believe)

I'm sorry to hear of this; our local Evri courier has been absolutely excellent, and I honestly have not a single complaint. We get a lot of deliveries too. I'm not quite so confident of a couple of the other courier companies though, and find myself wishing the sellers had just used Evri. I...

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

Technically no, but can you see the local Polis being happy to see me swinging a machete to cut back the nettles on the back lane ? or some overly judgmental local seeing such a thing in the light of the opprobium given to any knife these days ? It sometimes feels like a minefield just using...

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

I live in what is now suburbia, even if we do still call it the village and literally have woodlands on our doorsteps. I have a machete, a parang, a sickle, and a grass heuk, and oh, maybe three dozen other knives. Those are really my only 'big' ones though. I'm hoping I can justify that lot as...

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

You every try pouring tea, without spilling it, from one of those 40 cup teapots as they work and gossip their way around a table full of china ? It's an artform and a physical discipline all in itself :) Seriously; never understimate the little old ladies

    My walking staffs.

I have a 1.8m length of rowan that has been twisted by a honeysuckle into a partial corkscrew at one end. I keep meaning to make a staff from it, but it's just slowly hardening off still. I know friends who deliberately coiled honeysuckle up young hazel rods to make staffs like that though. M

Been watching videos of folks building rough log cabins in the woods, calling it bushcraft

It's more akin to pioneering, tbh. Maybe it's the old adage; Survival is get out asap, but Bushcraft is chill out asap.

That's just practical re-cycling of natural resources :)

Been watching videos of folks building rough log cabins in the woods, calling it bushcraft

This link is to a Brit's youtube where he and his Dad build an Anglo Saxon pit house.....this is just one of the styles of mostly small timbers constructions that were common right across the British Isles/N. Europe. From round houses to cruck frames, wattle and daub.....there's a heck of a lot...

Been watching videos of folks building rough log cabins in the woods, calling it bushcraft

Ah, I think I ought to have been clearer. It's the construction of 'log cabins' that are barely big enough to lie down within, titled bushcraft, with a huge effort and use of resources, and calling it bushcraft. It just seems totally overkill, tbh. Usually we built with stone here if we...

Woggle aka a big bead/lanyard bead

I love the beads :) Having said that; why not use something with a pithy core and just take that out to make life easy ? Elder is the classic for that.

I've been unwell, and stuck without much energy I've been watching videos of folks building stuff. Log cabins, bushcraft cabins, shelters, etc., and ye Gods! and little fishes ! what an amount of work ! What an amount of tree felling, etc., to build something the size of a garden shed. I know...
