Has anyone tried one. I have seen a few designs that can be slung as a hammock or pegged to the floor like a tent. I quite like the flexibility of the idea. does it really produce the ultimate in a flexible sleeping system or does it produce an item with too many compromises to be very good at...
yes I agree with the sentiments above. maybe my curiosity comes from definitions of activities. It has been said many times that "bushcraft" is a big umbrella covering many subjects but I guess I associated sitting around a large camp fire more with camping than anything else but I do see the...
most of my outdoor activities have been conducted without fires except maybe a small stove fire for cooking.
I come from an army background and on military exercises fires aren't use after dark and even in daylight hours a small hexamine fire for cooking is your lot. My own trips have either...
I was not until you posted the question. As far as I can see it is just a spade but the edges have been sharpened so he could use it for chopping or hacking. it may be an army issue spade or copy

there are a few thing here I can try without spending money. I do normally use a 2/3 self inflating mat on the camp bed but I will try my full length foam mat, Also I will add something to overhang the sides to see if that helps
I have had quite a few over the years but all have been very cheap
I now need a new one and before I buy another cheep led thing are there any suggestions for something that works really well

I have an army style camp bed it is comfortable but in cold weather you seem to feel the cold more. I am looking for some type of insulation layer I could put on it to try and stop the cold air coming up through it.
I thought a poncho liner or wool blanket might do the trick. Which would be...
to me his cut did not seem that bad to me. not as bad as the Lady in one of the earlier series who had a very nasty cut on her hand. They all are given a good first aid kit and if it was me I would have tried to patch it up myself and carry on. If then it was failing to heel or started to get...
I am playing devils advocate here some what and maybe the explanation I am seeking can not be easily put into words but it would nice to hear some opinions
I do know what you mean. This is the sort of answer I was expecting as people seem to give more importance and significance to bushcraft skills than people do to their hobbies. I can see it being part of a lifestyle. But unless you are living or planning on living that lifestyle and you live in...
