New Morakniv Morkret Knife unveiled this week in a variety of steels. Nice to see them using Elmax. Not really my style but good to see something different.

Full tang will please some though, and that nut/shell cracker end. I wonder how popular it will be. I still have the Mora2000 in the shinies box. It's almost unused
As for the metals....well, it's always a compromise, but I'd rather have something easily sharpened than something that pings off edges when I'm working hard with the knife. I don't want something that'll shatter or snap.
Surprising how many snapped knives I have seen over the years. I've lost two to that, and I wasn't using either of them at the time I hasten to add, and hadn't abused them beforehand either.

Maybe, but to me it looks more like a HD trekking knife (the one knife solution).
As to Mora's reputation there is a Finnish saying:
"Moralla murhat muikeat ja kirveellä kuolot kauhiat."
It does not translate well but the meaning is: Mora is good for murders and and axe for terrible deaths.

I was very polite......and then told 'everybody' what numpty broke my knife
One was an Archaeologist and the other was a Ranger for Historic Scotland, so no bushcrafters were harmed
Mora making that, I can’t quite believe it a full on honking great Survival knife and in Elmax no less. It reminds me of one of the bigger Fällkniven knives.
i like them. i don/t know much about different steels so can anyone tell me what are the advantages and disadvantages of each. which is strongest and which is the easyiest to sharpen. i have a stainless steel mora and its an effort to keep super sharp, so much so that i dont always bother. thanks. DD xxx
You’d need to go for the carbon steel version. Elmax would probably be your worst nightmare. But it is the best steel. Retains an edge and doesn't require much looking after. I wouldn’t say it’s hard to sharpen, but it requires more work than a high carbon tool steel. It’s a pay off. I’d rather put the work into sharpening than looking after high carbon steel constantly. Uncle Ray still uses 01. And I get it has personality and leaves memories on the blade. But it’s a pet project when using it in the UK in most seasons. Modern stainless steels are beyond superb now and there’s a plethora out there for every persons taste.
Someone on ootoob has suggested that the elmax was an excellent slicing steel, but not well suited to chopping.
Never used elmax myself but would probably choose the 14c28n unless I could be educated otherwise....

I don't think that I'll be splashing the cash on Mora's new offering. It's too long, too thick and the sort of shape that would've appealed in my (distant) youth but not now. That said, I'll be interested to read any reviews of it, once the purchaser(s) has spent a bit of time with it.
