Hello, my names Jason & I used to hang out on the BritishBlades forum with member name JasonK approx 20 years ago if memory serves… I lived in East Sussex at the time, but now live in & getting to know South Yorkshire & surrounding areas. House prices, cost of living & retirement…
Think I may have been a member on here many moons ago, around about the same time as I was a BB member, but had difficulty reactivating, so have joined as new. Could be mistaken of course.
Perhaps I will recognise some former BCUK / BB members as I familiarise myself with this forum. And I look forward to making new acquaintances.
Anyhow, I used to be into hiking, ultralight backpacking, camping, wild camping etc but physical health & fitness have curtailed me. Still very much interested in bushcraft & learning new skills however. I still maintain my interest in knife making & appreciate the skill that goes into crafting & designing custom knives & tools etc. Still have a collection of Stuart Mitchell bushcraft knives that are ageing well. Recently gotten into watch collecting, but that’s a whole other expensive rabbit hole…
Due to the aforementioned declining physical health (old age mostly) I do have some gear that I am looking to part with, but I need to read up on the specific rules around selling & gain some credibility first. Been promising my Wife that I will free up some space. I guess she does have a point that I don’t need a dozen stoves & half a dozen or more tents, hammocks etc
I have a liger belt (highly recommend) that I bought from Heinnies; that 20 years later is holding up just fine, almost like new. Got teased at the time when I made a post / partial review on it on the BB forum because it was expensive and some felt it was too much to pay for a belt. Mentioning, as a long shot, that it may jog someone’s memory & help establish my identity / credibility. And I’m pleased to write that my waist hasn’t outgrown it. Oh & if I recall correctly, username longstrider (I will check if he’s on here, you never know) sharpened one of my knifes and I still have a Shing slip joint pocket knife bought directly.
My forum etiquette is probably a little rusty. I hope I haven’t already put my foot in it by mentioning BB forum.
So hopefully that’s a little background. If anything else comes to mind I will add to this thread.
It’s good to be here. I haven’t figured out how to use the emoji stuff in my post as yet, so apologies for that.
