For the record, in most cases, dialling 911 in the UK will connect you to the emergency services.

But I can save you the effort of dialling it. Their 'advice' is usually really helpful ...

If you're bleeding heavily or struggling to breath .. dial 999.
For anything else .... take 2 paracetamols and call your doctor if you're not better by tomorrow.

in an emergency outdoors on a mobile phone I would always use the European standard 112.

It reaches exactly the same Exchange as 999 and is the same in every way but it works in so many countries, has language support and works with you’re phone in almost any state.
