Almost by chance I have discovered the secret key to unlocking my Great Grandson's interest in Wild Flowers. On a recent visit we were walking down the front lane along which is a 17th century stone wall. I pointed out the Pennywort which in a few weeks will almost clothe the stone work and said " That's also called Navel Wort " and explained that some country people of old decided that the plant looked like a Belly Button....When he had recovered from a laughing fit, the rest of our walk was punctuated with " What's that GG? " ( That's me..
)
Today was a recce for our next walk in the woods, no excuse needed in the bright warm sunshine.

Cause of all the merriment..

The woods are full of sunlight and even though trees are not in full leaf the smell of the Wild Garlic seems to be trapped in the woods.

Bluebells and Lesser Celandine...At 7 years old I think little 'un is bright enough to learn that Lesser Celandine was the very favourite flower of the Poet Wordsworth...So much so that he asked for it's image to be carved on his Gravestone. If anyone plans that, just be sure that the Stone Mason knows his Wild Flowers, because Wordsworth's headstone depicts Greater Celandine ...

Brew time and as I type I think I can hear the sobbing of the Forum Coffee Connoisseurs. I'm just a simple Peasant remember...
A strange find..Far into the deep wood, what I am told is a land survey marker probably from the 1950's

Homeward bound along the farm track I met a crowd of demonstrators as seen at weekends in Central London.
I spoke to the main agitator, Greta...No not that one..the udder one. She told me it was part of the Ban Foreign Dairy Import Moovement. ... Seriously..
