A commission piece, custom IWB pancake sheath for a small knife a chap uses at work, his previous sheath was pleather and fell apart when worn daily.

Quite pleased how this came out, the chap wanted some changes to dimensions and construction and had a budget to work to which I managed to accommodate.

Made from J wood tomahawk butt split in tan, glued and hand sewn with 0.8 ritza tiger. Wet-formed then oiled and polished.

Original sheath was in poor shape and borderline dangerous

So I used it as a basis of a template

Coming on okay

Glued it then punched the stitch lines

Final item wet formed

My brother gifted me a George Barnsley round head knife for Christmas, so I whipped up a sheath for it to stop it cutting my fingers off! Should have done a wider strap so the popper doesn’t look so huge

Lovely thing to use, it’s so much nicer than a craft knife

Oooh, nice work. I have a half head knife of theirs arriving this week. Glad to hear they are nice to use and I may well copy you with making a sheath!

Made something for myself tonight, an adaptor so that my 58 pattern compass pouch can hang from a belt (it doesn’t work so well using the original single metal loop with a normal belt)

What the rear fixing is like, kinda works on my 2 inch belt but isn’t satisfactory so I tended to just carry it in a pack, or with a carabiner on the top loop.

Laid out and measured up a simple rectangle of leather, measured for a couple of holes to go over the C hooks

Saddle stitched it together

Just simply folded it in half and stitched it together. Spot the stitch where I forgot to cast. Guess I spoke to soon about being happy with my hand sewing
IMG_8617.jpeg

Then fitted it to the pouch, has some movement but stays on firm, it was bloody hard to squeeze it in the leather so I guess it won’t be coming off anytime soon. I sized the loop to fit my widest belt

And the rear view

Made another custom belt, criteria was veg tan, running floral design and a matching buckle, Keeper and tip. Hand sewn and riveted and max budget £100
This is what I came up with

And weirdly I have had a bit of a run on these small pouches on eBay. I have sold a bunch of them randomly after selling none ever in the 218 days they have been on eBay. I don’t understand algorithms

Mint that mate. What leather did you use? Bridle Butt or Veg tan shoulder? Guessing veg tan with the tooling... Bridle makes a better belt, but a bit tough for tooling.

Yeah veg tan shoulder, I prefer bridle For belts and straps and will use that unless asked different, but was specifically asked to do this embossed pattern.

Will still work as a belt but will stretch more over time, still be a ten+ year belt though if looked after. Bridle though - that can easily last someone’s life time, I love bridle - it’s so nice to cut and sew

Bridle deffo makes a better belt. I was once asked to make a belt for someone, shall we say...on the larger side...Couldn't even get veg tan shoulder long enough to make it, but they didnt want bridle (which i could) as it was 'too stiff and digs in'... suggested a good firm elastic... no.... So sent 'em a link to weight watchers... Didn't go down well.
