Nope, code generated by AI, that has had good specification, - good specification yes....but I suspect a lot of poorer spec specs will come out via the spagetti coder/designers/cost cutting bean counters. And isn't AI meant to be "Self-learning" - can it write it's own code changes (or will it be allowed to in future?)

I have reviewed messy spaghetti code produced by 'experts' and I'll take the AI generated code any day based on what I've seen so far. - Yeah, seen too many new software foul-ups by folk like that.
When buying new software development I preferred the Indian industry model of only permitting use of the in-house book of sets of code/algorithms, no on-the-fly "I know a better way" permitted. Their in-house automated Testing programmes can then quickly find any errors = less bugs, faster implementation/ package interfaces and easier fixes if new bugs or changes required.

Having seen some rather interesting and some downright disturbing videos produced by AI on SM , I'm actually thinking there maybe a significant problem on the horizon in terms of distinguishing created content from reality.

Anyone feel the same or see it as a novel tool that is as bad as anything else?
You’re not on your own at all, it WILL be misused of that i am 100 percent sure. And gravely so too.

Ah, just to clarify in case of any doubt - my comments got typed into my extracts of Broch's post and then look as if they came from him - not so, my error, and my apologies to Broch.

< Blames A.I. >
Zero culpability.

:)
In my case AI= aging infirmity. :O_O:
But it does raise the question, if somebody relies upon A.I. where does the culpability lie?
- initially you'd think with that person, but if they did not know it was AI, or the AI was sold to them ?, Say for testing something, would the originator accept any liability? - I bet not, and they'll use the USA/EV autonomous driving defence of throwing bucks at it to make it go away.

But, we rely on the written or spoken word without accepting culpability; what's the difference? A great deal of what is published in the press many people just believe and re-quote - even worse on social media. At least if we ask AI a question it is likely to have scoured a great number of sources of information to come up with a more balanced answer (but still capable of being wrong admittedly).

This whole thing isn't new; it's just moving faster and is more pervasive than ever before. Traditional photographers bemoaned the arrival of digital with the enhancement tools software provided that made producing 'acceptable' photos easier; authors hated that people could rattle off new books every month by just using WP to generate versions of stories; artists hate that you can reproduce prints with such ease that true art has very little public value; and coders are now worried that anyone can generate working software; the list goes on.

As long as that IS broad spectrum variety of sources - probably not a problem.
If they , whoever is constructing the AI back room stuff limits or deselects from certain sources I think that's a potential issue.

Think how most spellchecker progs default to an American English bias.

My son is a computer programmer of many years standing.
He is expected to be able to explain any code that he submits, something that he couldn’t do if he called on AI to work through a problem for him.
Also (I’m not sure what I’m saying here) AI uses/creates data packages and when interrogated for a package name it tends to make one up.
Malware creators are adding their code to these publicly available packages which are being picked up by other AI projects.

Probably worth investing in a Desk if he is going to make a full time thing out of it.

Erratum. Two posts mixed together.
He has not published in the New Scientist (yet).

A.I., an "intelligence" constructed and fed by a form of life not remotely capable of controlling, let alone using properly, any form of power given to them.
What could possibly go wrong?
Of course "we" will only use it for good and proper purposes.... just as "we" did with pc's and mobile phones.
It does nothing for "us" in the sense that it makes "us" more intelligent, more creative, more free or even more prosperous.
Those that claim otherwise have not learned anything, I dare say.
