Ridgeline Roar over a Ridgeline Grizzly?

Hi there. I was wondering if anyone has both the Ridgeline Grizzly and Roar jackets? Would the Roar waterproof jacket cover the bottom of the fleece Grizzly jacket or are they the same length. I have a Ridgeline Grizzly and think it's pretty good but I know it's not meant for wet weather...

Finish/sealant used on EnZo Trapper scales?

Hi, I finally got around to doing something with the scales this week. I gave them a light rub with wire wool and each evening this week I've applied a little linseed oil and it actually seems to be taking it up. I think it's much improved from the pale appearance it had when I got it. Thanks.

Finish/sealant used on EnZo Trapper scales?

Thanks for all of the replies. I'll try using wire wool first to cut the surface layer and see how it goes. Cheers ! Fint

Finish/sealant used on EnZo Trapper scales?

Thanks Jinsin456, I used to carry out the same process on an EKA knife that I had and it worked fine and looked good. This new knife I have now came finished with what seems like some polyurethane coating and I'm wondering if it's possible to remove that without making a mess the scales. Cheers...

Finish/sealant used on EnZo Trapper scales?

Hello, I've been a lurker more than a poster on this forum but I find it really informative and I'm hoping people might have some information on an Enzo Trapper I recently bought. It's a terrific knife, stainless steel, sharp, strong and produces great sparks with a firesteel. The only thing I'm...

    Ray Mears new Shirt

I may never gain as much bushcraft/survival knowledge as Ray Mears (whom I greatly admire) but I know that in a temperate or cold climate that ''Cotton Kills''. And £125 is a ridiculous price (as is the price of the majority of products on his website).

Full tang stainless steel kinfe wanted

Hello, I need/want a new knife with some simple requirements. I have used a Helle folkekniven for over two years and was happy enough with it until the stick tang broke while I was trying to split some kindling with it. Perhaps I was using too much force and any knife would have broken in...

    Selway Fisher Canoes

Hi guys, I've just started building a 15'9'' Prospector and so far I've cut the timber and joined it to form the full length planks. I'm going to stitch them soon. So far I've been using fibre glass tape and resin that I've bought at the local hardware store which has been fine for joining the...

Transporting an axe and a knife by air to the USA

Hi there, I'm heading to Alaska for the summer and I want to bring my knife and axe along. Obviously I won't try to bring it on board the cabin but I was wondering would any of you know if I'll have a problem if it is stored in my luggage. I'm just concerned because of the increased security...

Looking of Stainless billies and other stuff

Hi James, if you'd settle for a military style A frame tent you might find a decent one at your local FCA or army barracks. I was up at a jamboree in Belfast a couple of years ago and a troop from Colraine had a few. They seemed more spacious than the Icelandics, but one draw back is they've got...

The Men Of The Last Frontier by Grey Owl

Yea that's the one, he even managed to fool the Queen of England when he was invited to London. Whatever about his past and personal life his message about the importance of conservation was well ahead of its time and its obvious he had a deep appreciation of nature. There's also some...

The Men Of The Last Frontier by Grey Owl

Just thought I'd let you know about this book I read recently. It depicts the lives of trappers and native americans in the great Canadian wilderness as modernization was slowly beginning to transform it. I really enjoyed Grey Owl's style, its nature writing and adventure at its best. There's...

Fire from an old log ...

Does anyone know the scientific principle behind the ability of relighting logs from a fire which has died out only using sparks?. . I've heard its got something to do with free radicals, but if somebody could elaborate I 'd be interested in hearing about it :-?
