    Anyone for a scandinavian get-together?

Bad news Jon... my son's hockey team, for which I'm a coach, has had two games scheduled for the weekend of the meet. I will be unable to attend unfortunately. Sorry brother.

    Packed for Norway today

Looks good, I like the IKEA drainer idea. I live on the edge of Østmarka, but I've been MTBing in Nordmarka -- lots of nice nature. It's starting to get chilly here; have you considered taking a folding saw or a small ax?

    Hedgehog Fungus

Well, I prepared them as described above, but with the addition of a pinch of cayenne pepper, and they were outstanding... what a great tasting mushroom. I'm going to be on the lookout for these from here on out.

    Hedgehog Fungus

Yep, that's about what I usually do with the other varieties I find. Thanks for the tip about removing the spines!

    Hedgehog Fungus

Found a nice Hedgehog fungus (Hydnum repandum) when out wandering in the woods yesterday. What's the best way to prepare them? I usually slice and saute most mushrooms I find, but I heard this variety lends itself more to soups. Any suggestions from folk that experience with them? hedgehog...

A good year for the berries?

Awesome. I'm going to try to make it down then. We can work out the details when I know for sure.

First Spoon Carve | Oak Porridge Spoon

Nice job. The shape looks best suited to a lefty. Was that the intention?

Sorbus aucuparia for a bow drill?

Anyone ever use Sorbus aucuparia (Rogn in Norwegian, possibly Rowan in English) for a bow drill? I gave it a shot; got a lot of smoke and black powder, but I never got a coal:censored:. I usually use Willow with good results, but I've been experimenting with other species lately. Any...

Nice work. The F1 just pops up everywhere I look lately... might have pick one up one day soon.

    Article: Review - Fallkniven F1

Great review. I've been considering picking one of those up. I'm a little torn between it and the H1. I got to loan an H1 one weekend, and as you wrote, it's not really enough time to really judge a knife. Any opinions about the differences between the two?
