I've never etched with it, but I've used it several times to grey out carbon steel to keep it from rusting. I never thought of thinning it with vinegar though, I might try that next time.

I'll keep my mouth shut Snufkin. I've just gotten back into throwing myself after a three year hiatus, I found that 20 minutes of throwing every day for about two weeks got my accuracy back up from "How did I mis the target from 15 feet away?" to good groups on an 8 inch bullseye from 10-15...

Here's a link to a tutorial on making a stitching pony,http://www.wrtcleather.com/1-ckd/tutorials/_stitchpony.html it's esentially the same thing as a stitching clam just a slightly different design.
