I would be well up for some more Ed, I've just been up to the stream to check the stuff I had put in with The Ratbag and the stream has really shrunk since we put the bark in. Most of the bark was on a dried up bank, so we failed! I repositioned the bark, pegged it down and rebuilt the existing dam below it to try and get the water level back up again. It has worked in places but such small pieces that it wasn't worth peeling them off. Besides which, it was bloody cold!

I'll leave it another couple of weeks and see how it is then, I have an idea for another stream in future which i reckon will be a lot better.

I'll go with the eventual consensus! I'm flexible too, so whenever! This weekend is a bit hectic as I have the Spyderco meet in Leeds on Saturday and Sunday is with the kids.

Would love to, but work is going to be a real 'mare for the next few weeks, and I'm already taking a load of time off during March :(
Would have loved to have tried my new sleeping bag in combo with the underblanket I picked up from the PO today...

Either or, I can be there! Need to get some woodsmoke on my newly acquired Swanni, it just doesn't smell right without it!

I`ve just emailed the site Spam regarding this Thursday evening, I don`t think there`ll be a problem with it being midweek. I`ll let you know later when I get a reply.

I ended up going for a Marmot Wave III Long - a little too long for me at 6' 2", but the rest were too short. It's rated down to -5 for comfort. It's a hefty beast, and 1.8kg though - not going to be carrying it too far!

You should put your other plans on hold Ed and get yourself up to the woods for a night. I`m sure Mrs Ed will understand.

If this was just a tad closer to me or if I owned transport I'd be there in a flash. But since you're miles n miles n miles away I'll just wish you well.. :)

Well, we decided to bin it in the end. Got there and put our hammocks up, I have come to the conclusion that my Aussie Hootchie isn't big enough so that will be flogged to pay for a larger tarp! The first tree that cracked in the gale force wind had us a bit worried, but the second one made our minds up for us! It just came out of nowhere, nothing on the weather reports! As I travelled back, I looked on as wheelie bins were scattered across the roads and flags outside of shops whipped on their poles which threatened to fold in half! Shame though, as the company was great and the woods looked fantastic, even if there were two creepy cyclists going through at gone 10 o'clock!

Another time Shewie, although I enjoyed myself and the Swanni now smells right! :D

After quite a blustery evening sitting round the fire (plenty of smoke for Spams new swannie) we climbed into the hammocks about 10 `ish. I had literally just taken off my boots and was tying them to my ridge line when I heard the sound of timber cracking in the distance. I waited for a few seconds expecting to hear a heavy thud as the tree hit the deck but it didn`t come. About three seconds later we had got up, dressed and booted and were now worrily discussing our options outside our shelters.
Looking up to the tree tops and seeing the huge swaying movements was enough to convince us that it was time to bail out. Although most of the pine in the area we were in, has been there longer than any of us, there were still the odd ones which had seen better days and looked like they could come down anytime in that wind.
As we took down the tarps we heard another crack but a lot nearer this time, this really got the old adrenalin pumping and confirmed our decision to get the hell out of there.
Don`t worry about future meets though, we were in a different area to where I propose to have the next ones. I had a bimble about with a pine needle brew whilst waiting for Spam to arrive this afternoon and found a spot which was a bit more sheltered . Unfortunately the nice cosy area of pine woodland we used turned out to be just a little bit scary in high winds.

The company was great though Spam and thanks for making the trip, and it`s also good to put a face to another name on here.

I`d say it was a mutual decision and probably for the best, the game of dodge the wheelie bin on the way home made it worthwhile though.

Yeah, the roads were in a right state! Bins all over the place, and did you see all of the small twigs and branches on the track on the way out of the site that had been blown off by the wind? That was strong stuff! Anyway, off to bed now as I feel after all thge excitement, I deserve it!
