Yorkshire Meet site photos and dates (PIC heavy)

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Looks like a really great spot (thought it was the one next to the caravan site).

Hope you have a good wknd out there, sadly won't be able to make it myself.

We`ll see you at the next one scruff, hopefully we should be getting quite a few in over the coming months.

I see your still up for Wharncliffe on Sunday, are you planning to go back home in the morning or are we setting straight off to meet Spam.

Just thinking about breakfast that`s all. Breccie for me usually consists of 3 cups of coffee and a couple of cigs, but if we`re off yomping with those squaddy types I might need something more substantial inside me.

Weather looks cracking for the weekend by the way.

I was thinking of moving straight on to Wharncliffe. Can I scrounge a lift as I'm coming over to Blackhills on the train?

I'll need a brew to get me going in the morning but was thinking of an easy breakfast. If we get there early we can have second breakfast. :)

Thanks for arranging the good weather. :)

I was planning to head straight over to be honest - less of a rush job then.. Are the camp showers likely to be working out of curiosity? Not that I'll die without a shower, but it does help wake me up :D (Not generally a morning-person!).
Also, I'll be driving too, so I'm sure we can work something out between all of us..

Something similar to be honest - quite happy with some breakfast bars and a cuppa... Worst case scenario sees me trying to cook some bacon on my new trangia - but depends on how early I wake up!

Nice one :) With the slight drawback that nice weather = clear skies = cold night ;) Not that I'll be complaining - just started reading a book on the night sky, will give me chance to try identifying some of the constellations...

The showers won`t be working Dave unfortunately, unless your wearing green shorts, a funny hat and go round saying "dib dib" a lot.

What sort of time are you thinking of getting to the site ??

Hmmm, I'm sure I saw my woggle from my cubbing days around somewhere the other day.. :D

I was thinking about setting off from York somewhere around 12ish, but not precious about it - can aim earlier or later as suits :) I'm guessing about 1-1.5 hours to get to the camp site on the other side of Leeds?

Just spotted this.....

I'm still gathering kit together, so I might be up for a trip over later on in the year.

I'll keep my eye out if your planning any more.

Cheers Rich.

Well, a great night was had - thanks for hosting Rich :)

It was a real experience for me - first night in a hammock, first night camping in woods (excepting on a course a couple years ago), first time out camping with such cold temperatures (some new items for my shopping list perhaps..? :D), first time I used my new trangia, and first time to meet people from BCUK in person...

Except for the cold bit (hands and feet like blocks of ice is no fun :(), the rest of the evening was good fun - and the company in particular (Rich and Stu) made it a great night out...

Darn it.... I took my eye off the ball and missed this.....:banghead:

This was just a sneaky night out Wayland, ahead of going to Wharncliffe, rather than a 'meet' proper - I don't think a date has been set for that yet - so you haven't missed out on the main visit..

There was just 3 of us this time - Shewie, Neanderthal and me...

It didn`t exactly go to plan but we made a good night of it.

I certainly wasn`t expecting a site full of kids shouting ogi ogi ogi oi oi oi when we turned up, so the night turned into a bit of a stealth affair not wanting to terrorise them with lots of sharpies etc. We found a nice pitch out of the way so it turned out okay in the end though.
Definitely the coldest night I`ve used a hammock in yet, but I managed to stay nice and toasty once I wriggled into my bivvy and sleeping bag.

I`ll get myself more organised with the next one and make sure we`ve got the whole place to ourselves. That way we can mess about with different kit and practice some skills etc, afterall I had brought a boot full of stuff to try out.

Cheers for coming Dave and Stu, it was good to put faces to names at last. Hope you can make the next one.

Did I forget to mention the bed warming shenanigans ?? :27:

Come on guys what are you gonna trade me for silence :swordfigh

:lmao: :lmao:

Thanks for the lifts and a great meet guys, a lot of fun in such a short time in the woods. :D

Next time I'll check that my hammock quilt is actually in the bag I thought it was in. :(

Anyway, in the words of that great philosopher/bushcrafter Plato "Necessity is the mother of invention". So, I'd like to reveal to BCUK the 'invention' of the Bushcraft Hot Water Bottle.

Take a 2 litre Platypus water bottle with a screw on lid.
Pour in some hot water at the desired temperature but don't fill it completely.
Stick it up your jumper when you get into your hammock.

Edit: It was a very Manly and bushcrafty hot water bottle. :D

Cheers
Stu

Not very good unfortunatley, seems this camera prefers daylight or at least people cooking food. :)

I`ve got some holidays left to take at work before the end of March and was thinking of a few nights out midweek. Anybody up for it ???

Next week or the week after would be good ???

Rich

I might be interested in this! I need to get the lime bark out of the river, which I may do later on, so I might have some lime bark for cordage making so long as it all goes to plan!
