Decided to go for a walk to somewhere i have n't been for over a year even though its less than 10 minute walk from my house.I took the in laws jack russell who is a year old and has become my outdoor companion since loosing my dog, never had much to do with terriers but ive really come round to the idea as hes a great bushcraft dog and is well behaved even had a bloke who shoots with 2 springers comment how well behaved he is :D

Durham.
Nice one Andy.
I regularly cycle the old railway lines in that area and see how the old pit reclamation is coming along nicely (around Hetton Lyons park/the Hetton Downs over to Dalton Park., down to Thorpe Thewles etc).

I must admit I usually miss the fungi as I'm going a bit quick on a bike.
Maybe I should park at Hetton Lyons one day and do it on foot with a camera!

Cheers

Very nice Andy, looks a nice day out

Don't be fooled by the well behaved Jack Russell though, my mate has two and they're both insane

haha i think it must be crossed with something in its past as its not very terrier like only heard it bark twice and likes other dogs even when they have a go he just stands there apart from chasing everything, chased a fox last when we were out, luckly the recalls now good enough to call him off :)

Great pics :) I know what you mean about 'on the doorstep'. I've got a Woodland Trust wood next to my house, and although it's still young, it's lovely. Most people seem to stay in the first 50 metre loop, with a few other dog walkers going about halfway. If I head to the far end, I never see anyone else which is great. Do you know what the first fungus in your photos is, please? There's one growing by itself in the woods near mine, no others in sight, and I wondered about it the other day.

Thanks Andy. I'm hoping to go on a fungi foray in a few weeks so hopefully if that goes ahead I'll get a few pointers on the more common ones. There doesn't seem to be many in 'my' woods yet :)

You know, I'm a bit of a coward! Not sure I'd ever eat mushrooms I found, even after some training, just in case. I'd like to be able to identify some of them though for interest. Is there a particular guide book you've found good?

Thanks Andy! Good price, too. I'll keep an eye out.

JRTs are great :D My friend has two (called Hovis and Marmite - no laughing at the back please!) and they have the biggest personalities ever. Marmite is a tiny wee lassie but the terror of much bigger animals if they cross her :D
