A few weeks ago I was camping out at loch Moy with a pal. It was a great opportunity to test a lot of my historic kit as I'm researching and developing more Pictish living history gear. I'm not happy with everything, but it's early days and a good start to seeing what works and what needs improved. I had a mish mash of stuff as I wasn't going for authenticity, just function :)

My tarp we only finished making the night before, and Beezers hadn't Ben put he'd either so it was the first time working out how to pitch our tarps together to make a good camp.

I've been testing out Pictish shoes I'm developing, as well as some water bottles, cooking pans, my nettle clothing, and other nic nacs. Onwards and upwards :)

Mate that is just epic! What awesome photos and loving your kit. I might have to do some more reserach as the kit and era looks right up my street.
Where did you get the cooking pan from or did you make it?
Thanks for sharing; I really like this.

Love the shoes Hamish. The patterns great. Was it difficult to get used to wearing them as they don’t have modern soles and thickness underfoot. I bet you can feel really ‘grounded’ in them

i've been wearing turnshoes for years so plenty used to it, i wear them day to day in the workshop and find them very comfy especially with sheepskin insoles. I like wearing them out especially as you do feel the ground more, and so it forces you to walk a little slower taking in more with the senses, and being quieter so i see more wildlife :)
