How about Bear Grylls as well. :theyareon
I like the guy, but I'm not sure he deserves an honour - but then I'm at odds with the honours system anyway. To me being good at your job shouldn't really get you an honour regardless of whether it's in the public eye or not. You need to bring a real benefit and contribution to our society.
How about all the people able to make a living fron bushcraft and outdoor activities because the whole subject is in the public consciousness? Twenty odd years ago it was very different.
Personally I think he qualifies.
As a bushcrafter thats only a natural opinion.
But bushcrafters are miniscule in numbers in the UK. Have a look at it from outside of the bushcraft bubble. Ray who?????
I honestly believe Bear Grylls is more deserving of honours for the tons of charity work he has done and for his involvement in the scouts. Basically he helps others where Ray doesn't.
Cynthia Cowley, a lunchtime supervisor and caretaker at St James and St John Church of England School in Akeley, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for her long and dedicated service to the school.Mrs Cowley, who has worked at the primary school for 33 years, was understandably taken aback when she received the news.
"I opened the letter and read the first paragraph and just sort of froze. I could not believe what I had read. I put the letter back in the envelope and I said to John [her husband] 'I'm going to work'," she told BBC News.
well criteria can be anything now
My mate got his MBE because he was a Major and commanded a unit in conflict (Iraq)
if he was a Colonel it would have been an OBE
Yes - Other Buggers Efforts.....
yes he was Driving Fuel trucks in Bosnia as a Lt (well navigating ) but still had a few shot out from under him . And he does look after his guys
It is a bit strange tho that set Honers go to a set ranks for being there tho
Guess every body gets a service medal for being there
and you get the bravery medals for over and above stuff
