After years of hating SAK's iv decided i need one. (just as every BC'er needs anything that is shar). I'm too scared to carry any form of knife in the uk due to laws but always end up needing something handy when working or walking and SAK seems to fit many functions.

any pointers on where to get one relativly cheap? or any good imitations?

Thanks, Hamish.

Bugger, beaten by Kepis, but 2 of us think 7dayshop is worth a go

:)

As Wild thing states, never had a problem with 7dayshop, plus if you order is less than £18.00, i think it is, it's also VAT free as they ship from the Channel Islands.

You made the right choice,

I got myself a huntsman a couple of month ago, it's great especially as it has scissors and a small saw blade on it.
perfect size for the pocket and completely legal.

The blades are surprisingly tough and will take alot of abuse.

As has been said, all SAK are perfectly legal to carry around without good reason but still keep your wits about you. If you get caught in a scuffle the police are bound to be a bit suspicious at you carrying a knife and might try and argue that it was an offensive weapon. Don't carry it in places where you really aren't likely to need it - big cities I usually give it a miss and check the policy of your place of work as many don't allow you to carry knives. One final piece of advice: If the police want to confiscate the knife off you then don't stop them and don't argue the law with them in the street; Ask them where the local station is and head down there afterwards to argue your case and get the knife back after explaining why it was fine for you to be carrying it.

But basically, if you don't get in fights and don't do anything to make the police suspicious enough to stop and search you or make them think you would use the knife illegally then you won't have any problems; I carry a SAK almost everywhere I go except when going to college and I've never had a problem.

spot on i agree with you entirely. i think im a bit overly wary because my appreance really doesnt help. young man, scruffy dreads, covered in tattoos. the kind of stereotype can always be viewed in the wrong way so i try and distance myself from anything that could go wrong. but at the end of the day i do often need something like a SAK so im counting on good manners and cooperation to keep me safe ;)

again thanks for the heads up folks

Good choice on the Huntsman - I got one from this here forum and made a belt pouch for it from my old Para boots.
Show us a pic when you've made yours.

Hi Hamish,

Let us know if the little red pocket knife changes your opinion once you have had a chance to use it for a while. I hope it does.

Regards, Jon.
